This thread idea, stemmed from rubystrars kitty vid.

I obviously live away from home(280 miles to be precise), but i so miss my cat monica. Any other cat lovers on here?

People think im weird, when i visit my mothers house, i talk to my cat just like shes my actual sister. my mum also talks to my cat.

I just love how act, the "playing hard to get" (meet the parents), the purring, the rolling on their backs etc.

I am the BIGGEST Cat lover on the west coast {maybe}...


At one time I took care of 7 cats in my house... When we moved to NorCal in 98 we had 5 cats...

At this time I have 1 adorable inside cat named Pepper and 1 loveable outside cat named Blinky.... There are also 3 feral cats who I feed in my backyard...

I am so fortunate that I just saved Pepper from almost dying once again from Anemia due to fleas... Just last Sunday she had a blood transfusion {at a cost of nearly $1200 to me}.... But she has recovered from this and is about as good as new now...

   I got cat's all over my community. I saw a mother and two kittens today. I tried to give them food and the mother started to hiss. My laser toy doesn't seem to work on stray cats.

I've been trapping some around my house and getting them fixed. It's easy to do and it stops them from having babies that starve and suffer and/or get killed by cars/mean people/predators. It's called TNR, and it works very well.

I believe I've already stopped 20 kittens from being born considering that both Blackie and Whitenose had 5 kittens each last Spring/Summer and this year neither of them will have litters (that's at least 10) and Blackie's daughter Smokey is fixed (that's 5 more), and I adopted the surviving three babies that Whitenose had (she has two living daughters, so that's at least 5-10 more cats that will never be born to suffer and die).

The only ones who don't like it are birder groups who just plain hate cats and would rather see nothing done or all cats killed than see the feral population humanely reduced/eliminated over time.

This is not harming cat's ability to "multiply" as G-d commanded them because cats have already multiplied, way, way way out of control, and they need help.

We use Advantage... Just bought some last week... But the fleas got to her before we could give it to her... Now she has been given a dose of Advantage by the vet, and I hope that it will last for a couple of months...

Advantage is good too. Maybe it will help if you're able to give it to her all year round instead of just in the summer months, so the fleas never get a chance to get that bad. I know that's what they tell me to do with the Revolution, although I haven't had enough money to buy it for the winter months.

I'm really glad you had enough to help Pepper with the transfusion!

I love cats!  Thorberg Maccabee, Frankie Raye, and Jamie Fur Claws, are highly valued feline members of my household.  We love to spoil our cats.  I had another cat I saved who later died [Odin], he was my 1st cat, I think he lost his Mom somehow because he looked like roadkill when I found him and he was covered with bugs, and had anemia, the vet said he was about 6 weeks old, he was SO tiny that he was hard to pet for awhile until he got bigger...  I nursed him back to health spoon feeding him all his meals... he died early in life [a great sadness], at 6 months old [allergic reaction to tranquillizer when I went to have him neutered], but every day with him was a true joy, and he made me a cat lover, before I was a dog person but now I am both.

Although love dogs as well, I have none now.  I'd like to get a Canaan dog in the future.  Trying to save up and fulfill my responsibilities here in California so I can make Aliyah, two cats are all I can take from what I understand [JFC is my roommates cat so that should work out].

The master of the house – and the alley – is the cat ( chatul). Cats are the most popular pet in the world ( chayat machmad). Traditionally, historians have thought that ancient Egypt was the site of cat domestication, due to the clear depictions of house cats in Egyptian paintings about 3,600 years old.

Unlike many animals, the cat's language seems to be universal and all cats have the same meow (). In Israel you can see cats everywhere in every street, on fences, in garbage cans, or next to any possible food supply. Legend is that in the 1930s, the British brought cats to the Holy Land to control the rat population; that was solved and now Israel’s cities have a preponderance of wild cats.

Many cultures have negative superstitions about cats. An example would be the belief that a black cat "crossing your path" leads to bad luck. Believing in this would be a violation of the Torah commandment not to ascribe power to omens (Leviticus 19:26).

Cats are mentioned fondly in the Talmud. Our Sages of Blessed Memory ( ) refer to cats as an example of modesty, for the way they cover their droppings:


Transliteration: I’lmale lo nitna Torah, hayinu lemedin tzni'ut mechatul.

Translation: If the Torah wasn't given, we would have learned modesty from the cat.

My Kitty is 17.5, she is old and getting geriatric. I love her so much, too much. Which is why I don't think I will ever want another cat.

Ariel I'm so sad that your kitten died when they were little like that. I had a similar situation. Tiger, Casey, and Serena's sister, named Baby, died too. Actually they had another sibling named Graykit but I don't know what happened to him/her because they disappeared before I could catch them.

Baby had ringworm encrusting her body so bad that it didn't even look like she had any normal skin. She had almost zero fur and maybe 2 shriveled whiskers.

I hand fed her and tried to keep her healthy until I could get her to the vet. The vet tried to save her but she went into convulsions and died. Worse yet she had to undergo a rabies test because of the way she died, so when I got her body back from the vet's office to bury she didn't even have her head, and I had to promise not to unwrap her and look at her.

She was only a few months old it really wasn't fair. She was so tiny too, she was the smallest out of the litter. I still have good memories of her though. I used to feed her and her siblings outside every night. I was waiting for them to be old enough to capture them to get spayed/neutered so I have good memories of seeing them all playing together, etc.
