I think Dan Ben Noah has a good idea with the dishonorable member rank.

Trolling of all kinds should be banned because it is a disruption to anyone who genuinely seeks intelligent discussion.

Otherwise I'd let anyone in as long as he is not deliberately trying to disrupt, incite, or post obscenities- be they porn pics or expressions of sympathy to Hitler.

Agree with Zelhar and also like Dan Ben Noah's idea.

When a person is obviously trying to disrupt the forum as opposed to merely expressing different views or different opinions, it would be to our own detriment to let the person go on disrupting... 

I am all for open debate and using substantive arguments, while eschewing namecalling.  Namecalling and ad hominem attack are quite literally the bane of a forum's existence and contrary to its purpose. 
On the other hand, the forum has to have standards or else the quality will come to reflect that of its lowest common denominator.

I think that is a good idea, also...

I say we keep them but for certain cases we develop the "Dishonorable Member" rank, which would only have access to one board known as the "Time Out Corner".  All members would have access to the Time Out Corner, but Dishonorable Members could only post there and not on other boards.  The symbol indicating the Dishonorable Member could be a Star & Fist with the fist giving the thumbs down.

I'm more than comfortable with trolls being allowed to stay around if they provide debate,   w/o breaking the forum rules.    However,    in the case of a troll who spams the Forum like the Ron Paul/  James Traficant/  Pat Buchanan supporter did a few days ago,   with a multitude of messages within an hour or two,     that type of troll should be banned.
