I have seen this quote in quite a few places on the internet now.  I remember a few JTF shows ago Chaim talked about Ghandi being an anti-Semite, recently I have done some research of my own.  I am somewhat shocked at the results!

Several years ago, I read from what seemed like a reliable source that Gandhi suggested that European Jews in WWII should have committed mass suicide in order to demonstrate their moral superiority over the Nazis.

Gandhi was a complex character.  For instance, while he railed against the maltreatment of the 'Untouchable' caste in India, Gandhi never repudiated India's caste system.  Churchill (speaking of complex characters) once said something like this about Gandhi (paraphrasing here, as I don't remember the exact wording):  'He seeks to replace the alleged excesses of our colonialism with very real excesses that will inevitably occur with home rule.'

Unfortunately Gandhiji was encircled and worked mostly with Muslamic merchants and Missionaries theologians like Deenbandhu Andrews. He attempted to make a lot of theological studies with them. The consequences were obviously going to be disastrous and he was never to get any righteous and original viewpoint from the Jews. I very much doubt that in his whole lifetime he could have met or talked any righteous Jew.

I have recently now seen his views about Islam.  I have a feeling he was fed a lot of taqqiya and kitman, and based his views upon this.  How could Gandhi look past 80 million+ Hindus being slaughtered by Islam?  Islam should never have even existed in India!  I have never read the entire Bhagavad Gita, but I have had it explained to me; how could Gandhi be so opposed to violence [apparently only some of the time] when this book seems to prescribe violence if violence is called for in a righteous way?  I guess my answer to my question is that he was a stupid hypocritical hatemonger fool who was put on a platter by other stupid hypocritical hatemonger fools.  For shame what many schools teach about this monster.
