You're right... Latrina dosen't have a meaning, neither does some other African American name but I don't see why its necessary to make fun of a name though.

I've heard some really bad impressionists make fun of Hebrew/Arabic names. Making 'hacking' noises to express how disgusting the names sound. I don't think that's cool and I don't think its cool to say mean things about children who can't help what they were named. Take this from someone who gave one of her children a name that means milk in Espanol; only spelled LeChea (like Shea Stadium). If she dosen't like it, she can change it at 18.

Its not a trick..its the truth, just like a great percentage of blacks committing crimes. Are you saying that just because bad whites don't commit crimes as often as bad blacks that crime is okay?

This is why I don't focus mainly on what percentage of who does what because it would take a chunk of time out of my life. Cringing everytime I see a white person coming down the street, thinking that they might be a KKK member would not make me happy...it would actually make me look quite derranged. So I focus on what I CAN change. I can change the world by not raising my children to become those bad BLACK people. I can change the world by not changing myself into those people who hurt white people. That may seem like I'm living in la-la land but the sun on this side is a lot brighter than the alternative side. I can't prepare grown people for what's going to happen in the world, they're way past the age of understanding  but I can prepare my young girls and the students I'll teach in just a little while (in 3 1/2 years) for what to expect in the grown-up world.

YES, a lot of blacks commit crimes. YES there are a lot of teenaged black moms (I was raised by one). YES, there are blacks who listen to gangsta hip hop music and act it out. YES, there are broken black families. YES, YES, YES....

But that doesn't have to be the situation for the rest of black America. If I focused on the bad (eventhough I know what I know) I would get nothing done. I'd do my whole family more harm than good. I'd have to switch my attitude from positive to negative because when there's bad going on, there 'ain't' nothing good to talk about. lol I won't be going that route.

Because my life is filled with doing what they said to do, Dissenter. Bill Cosby dosen't go everywhere preaching what he spoke about every single day. But there is a way that I can do what I've always done (what Bill said) and not have to watch my back for angry white people. lol

I have read every response and I've thought about the precentages and such and I realize that they're true. But 'like the boring person I am', I can't dwell in the negativity. I have these young people to lead in positivity.

I educate them on good and bad people every day. I also talk to them about AIDS, drugs, gangs, and alcoholism. They preach to their grandmother (My mom) about the importance of not smoking cigarettes. And they've even encountered some bullying in their lives because of their learning disabilitites. I teach them to take action by standing up for themselves and telling their teacher, their dad and me what happened so that we can follow up.

The great thing is that my kids don't have to worry about gang violence right now. Their friends aren't in gangs. And even with the knowledge that there are gang bangers in our country, they can still assimilate themselves with people who aren't gang bangers. They only hang around positive people. I won't let them grow up like I did, running home after school before gunshots ring out. They dont' have to do that now. But I'm proud of myself and my husband for educating them on the things you speak of. So its not that I'm dismissing anything, I want them to enjoy life without carrying the burden of society on their shoulders so much that they can't breathe.

What gives you the idea that he can't speak English properly? Have you checked your posts for grammatical errors? And another thing I don't know where you're getting your information from but I never asked for any of the things you just rattled off in the post I just quoted. I'm in school now and don't need you or your money to earn my degree.
