What do you think about the theory that America is the modern Rome? Do you see the comparison?

Well we do have a lot of people who speak a Latin-derived language, but they're not really Americans for the most part.

Of course America is derived from Roman ideas and culture. Roman architecture, Roman philosophy, Roman morality, Roman mythology... Americas political system is called a Republic modeled on Romes Republic. It is a common Jewish concept that we are still in the Exile of Edom {Rome}...

You shall make yourself the Festival of Sukkoth for seven days, when you gather in [the produce] from your threshing floor and your vat.And you shall rejoice in your Festival-you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow, who are within your cities

Well Romulus and Remus were raised by a wolf, and a lot of young people in America are raised by the tv, which is also not human.

muman613 - "It is a common Jewish concept that we are still in the Exile of Edom {Rome}..."

Yes.

And once again, it is Edom which is leading the charge to disassemble Israel and teach the stubborn Jews a lesson they'll never forget:  The lesson being "WITHOUT EDOM, YOU ARE NOTHING !"

The U.S.A. operates 860 military bases in foreign countries based on 2004 figures.

source:  http://www.defenselink.mil/pubs/20040910_2004BaseStructureReport.pdf

note:  The CIA operates its own private army and air force, unaccounted in the official record keeping government publications.

The NSA and other agencies operate bases overseas as well as in space and are unaccounted in the official record keeping government publications.

I consider the U.S.A. to be an empire although one spread and maintained primarily by diplomatic and economic coercion.

Both Rome and the U.S.A. began as small republics with constitutions establishing law and order for the benefit of their elite wealthy landowning classes.

Initially only wealthy male landowners of the respective republics could elect representatives and serve as lawmakers within a system of codified civil laws enforcing private property rights for the exclusive benefit of landowners, and in both republics neither females nor the lower classes could vote, own property, or serve in the Senate.

Every enterprise must grow or perish, and so it was with the agricultural landowners, who acquired more land area, more possessions, and eventually found themselves face to face with neighboring hostile savages who threatened peace and prosperity.

Armies were raised by both republics to defeat the raids from outside their territories, resulting in land conquests and the subjugation of barbarians.

The republics sent territorial governors to rule over the conquered lands, thus ensuring the continuity of trade, increasing the prosperity of the republics, and offering "membership" in the ever growing "commonwealth" to subjugated peoples in exchange for their assimilation into the culture of the conquerors.

More often than not the vast untapped resources of the conquered territories were the 'ulterior motive' used to justify a permanent military and political occupation of conquered lands and peoples, inevitably followed by official annexation of lands and inhabitants into an ever enlarging "republic".

It should be understood that Roman Publicans and American estate owners never understood what would be the ramifications and consequences of their choices and actions in pacifying the territories which were outside their borders.

They sincerely believed that the conduct of trade and the civilized order could not continue unless military force was used to defeat "the Dacians" or "the Cherokee" and neutralize their territories.

As they defeated all who threatened their way of life, the "republic" expanded, only to realize that each military success and territorial conquest could not be maintained without another conquest, another military outpost, an increasing need for more natural resources, and another territorial governor to establish "law and order" among the newly subjugated people which soon clamored for more legal rights and more money.

Both Romans and Americans considered that territorial and political expansion was "forced upon them" if civilization and culture were to be maintained in the world.

In both societies were a handful of Senators who attempted to warn their countrymen that the republic was embarking on a "path of no return" - one which would inevitably lead to corruption, despotism, and bankruptcy.

Then as now, they were shouted down by the majority as fools oblivious to the dangers threatening the republic from without.

An "empire" is always the final stage of a country's degeneration and devolution; so large, unstable, and ungovernable, that it can only be maintained abroad through military force, and can only be maintained at home through repression and the threat of force.

As social corruption, a weakening economy, and moral decline increase at home as the direct result of "empire building", an emergency situation soon emerges.

Eventually the "representative republic" must relinquish all authority and power to a dictator who inevitably demands absolute power, more territory, a larger military, and exorbitant taxation of the population in order to pay for it.

The costs of maintaining "empire" always leads to deficit spending, followed by bankruptcy, followed by complete collapse of the political and social order within the Empire.

As the old adage states:  The Road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

America influenced and influences the world much more than Russia ever did (mostly in a very bad way).

America influences Israel and rules it after being "invited" by the Left (Jews) - Rome influenced Judah and ruled it manipulating one of the Hasmonean brothers who were fighting each other.

America has the largest and most advanced army in the world - Rome had the largest and most advanced army in the world for an era.

Even the political structure is similiar - the US has a Senate, Rome had a Senate, both were created as Republics and had bureaucracy destroying the Republic and changing the entire nation.

Both have a Capitol (United States Capitol and the Capitoline Hill).

Both will be destroyed with G-D's Revenge using Barbarians that the Americans foolishly considered loyal (Muslims, Hispanics, Blacks, etc). Rome was already destroyed by such "loyal" people.

There’s a prophecy that Edom will destroy Babylon. Babylon is modern day Iraq, so I guess Edom is modern day America.

This is interesting about the symbol of the eagle-symbols for Rome and America.  I think America is becoming like Augustus Caesar's dictatorship, the government that is.

The comparisons of America to Rome, there are certainly a lot of similarities, the Liberty statue which is esentially a female Goddess, the white house and government buildings which look pretty darn similar to Roman architecture, spreading American culture everywhere and heavily influencing Israels politics, and of course the corruption and military might.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquila_%28Roman%29

Quote
History

The signa militaria were the Roman military ensigns or standards. The most ancient standard employed by the Romans is said to have been a handful (maniple) of straw fixed to the top of a spear or pole. Hence the company of soldiers belonging to it was called Manipulus. The bundle of hay or fern was soon succeeded by the figures of animals, of which Pliny the Elder (H.N. x.16) enumerates five: the eagle, the wolf, the minotaur (Festus, s.v. Minotaur.), the horse, and the boar. In the second consulship of Gaius Marius (104 B.C.E.) the four quadrupeds were laid aside as standards, the eagle (Aquila) being alone retained. It was made of silver, or bronze, with outstretched wings, but was probably of a relatively small size, since a standard-bearer (signifer) under Julius Caesar is said in circumstances of danger to have wrenched the eagle from its staff and concealed it in the folds of his girdle.[1]

Under the later emperors the eagle was carried, as it had been for many centuries, with the legion, a legion being on that account sometimes called aquila (Hirt. Bell. Hisp. 30). Each cohort had for its own ensign the serpent or dragon, which was woven on a square piece of cloth textilis anguis,[2] elevated on a gilt staff, to which a cross-bar was adapted for the purpose,[3] and carried by the draconarius.[4]

Ron I see your points but I still don't subscribe. One thing that is sure is- Israel is the same Israel and Jews are the same Jews.

But let's look at differences: America is innovative, while Rome was purposely stagnated. Rome was imperialistic, expansionist. Rome conquered territories, then sucked them dried of their wealth, and finally set up a ruling class of Romans and local traitors to keep extracting the marrow of the country. Let's compare that to America- she conquered, then spends her own wealth on the conquered territory, which it doesn't even keep.

Rome fell due to the Romans becoming soft,  and by letting their economy collapse under extensive trade deficits. There is definitely a similarity to America in that case. These are the mechanisms of their respective disintegration that have similarities, more than the civilizations themselves.

America is a modern day Rome or Babylon as far as I see it.
Bottom line it's a failing empire...and yes it's definitely an imperial nation.  How so... well first of all the U.S.A. was founded and built on conquered land.  Secondly, it's not really one state now is it?  It's in fact numerous states that united together as one after their conquest was won.

How can you explain Hawaii, and Alaska being "America" if it weren't for their imperialism.
