The old Serbian songs of Kosovo-Metohija
« on: November 14, 2010, 12:44:10 PM »
In an effort to combat the stupid turbofolk garbage today in Serbia, I'm posting these beautiful old songs of Kosovo-Metohija to show the beautiful musical heritage of the region. Many people think that southern Serbian culture is heavily Turkish influenced, but then there are many who find that these songs are closer to Byzantine culture. Or to the pre-Slavic Illyrian/Thracian civilization. Anyway, these are my favorite Serbian songs of Kosovo-Metohija:

Zapevala sojka ptica (The thrush sings)

Preletese ptice lastavice (The swallows fly overhead)

Ajde Jano kolo da igramo (Come on, Yana, let's dance the kolo)

Beli lice Prizrenka devojka (The girl of Prizren whitens her face)

Marijo deli bela kumrijo (Maria, white dove)

Gusta mi magla padnala (Heavy fog fell)

Ustaj Kato, ustaj zlato (Stand up Katherine, stand up golden one)

Oj golube, moj golube (Oh dove, my dove)

Kisa pada, trava raste (Rain falls, grass grows)

Simbil cvece (Simbil flowers)
