You're full of it Chiamfan!  What are you afraid of?

I thought you were interested in saving Western civilization.

Looks like you're only interested in typing into your computer.

They taught me that marijuana doesn't have withdrawl symptoms so it isn't really addictive.  But it is an hallucinogen and messes with your central nervous system so who knows what long term effects that will have on you.  Also,  it's used as a gateway drug to dangerous drugs like cocaine that easily can kill you even the first time using it.

It's not addictive for the once in a blue moon user, But I've worked with young people who smoke lots of it and it gets really addictive if heavily used.

Addictive, yes.  But not even close to the danger level of cigarettes.

For the love of G-d, coffee and donuts are addictive, are they not?

It's much worse than cigarettes.Dope is much higher in cancer causing tar. Nicotene is only dangerous in very high doses. in rerular doses it improves the memory. The drug in dope (forget the name ) is said to be far worse. At any rate, citing smokes and booze is a chestnut. Why legalise another drug?

NICOTENE causes cancer, not tar.

Why not make alcohol illegal.  It kills A LOT of INNOCENT people.

The delivery system for the nicotene cases the cancer...ie; tar and carbon monoxide. Booze like wine and beer are healthy in moderation. If you want to know the REAL reason they won't legalise dope.......... they havn't figured out how to regulate and tax it.

Actually tar causes cancer, and dope has like 5 times more tar than cigarettes.  Nicotine has absolutely zero adverse affects other than making cigarettes addictive and making you feel good.

Why is it that eating an OUNCE of cannabis gets one intoxicated, while eating a GRAM of tobacco gets one KILLED?

Eating has nothing to do with smoking.  And eating one ounce of tobacco won't kill you, a lot of people chew tobacco and I'm sure they end up swallowing a lot of it.  Drinking 8 ounces of caffeine will also kill you by the way.  Interesting that 41 cups of Starbucks Tall Coffee will kill you.

Come now.  Its called CHEWING tobacco, not SWALLOWING tobacco.

Believe me, if you were to eat the tobacco in one cigarette, it would at least make you VERY sick.

Eating an ounce of tobacco will kill a person twenty-times over.

Ask a doctor or some other authority.  They'll tell you the same thing.

Again, it is irrelevent since smoking something and eating it have different effects and we're talking about cancer and long term health risks here which is a chronic process.  If you somehow manage to eat a toxic amount of tobacco, you won't die from cancer, you'd die from nicotine overdose.  If you eat a toxic amount of nightshade, you'd die from atropine toxicity but the thing is not going to give you cancer.  If you compare smoking weed chronically to smoking tobacco, weed has 5 times more tar in it so you'll probably die from bronchogenic carcinoma or from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease due to lung damage in either case.  So it is not relevant comparing eating when we're talking about smoking here.

My point is that one is a benign substance and one is a poison.

Drink 5 gallons of water and it will kill you, inject clean mountain air into your vein and it will kill you. The eating tobacco argument is a non starter.

You've missed the point again. I'm sure it wound kill me, but it aint meant to be eaten but smoked. My point is that your argument is null & void because many benign substances can kill if missused. ie: injecting air or excessive water consumption.

I'm for it.

Marijuana can effectively alleviate the nausea associated with chemo-therapy.

It also has medicinal value when used to treat glaucoma.

There's no reason that people suffering from nausea as a result of chemotherapy, or those suffering from glaucoma, should be denied the benefits of this natural, inexpensive drug.

All lies.  Nausea associated with chemo-therapy can be treated with Ondansetron.  Glaucoma already has many medications to treat it (way more effective than smoking weed) like muscarinic agonists, acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, and beta blockers.

There's a drug called MARINOL on the market now for cancer patients that's manufactured from marijuana.  I think it's illegal in some states but I know it's available in NY.

Having a drug like this on the market seems like a good compromise to both arguments, for and against.
