Iran's Navy aims to expand presence to Antarctica

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran's Navy chief says his country is planning to expand its presence in international waters, part of efforts to boost its military and extend its reach all the way to Antarctica.

Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari says in comments reported by state Press TV Saturday that the move will allow the navy to raise the Iranian flag anywhere from the North to South Poles.

Sayyari said earlier this year that Iran seeks to put warships in international waters off the U.S. coast "within the next few years."

Iran's efforts have been interpreted as a response to America's beefed-up naval deployment near Iran's shores in the Persian Gulf.

The agenda for the South Pole, said Habibollah, includes building a nuclear powered ice factory there as part of a program to provide "an ice box for every Iranian housewife".

You know...Iranians are ugly...but at 85 below zero in the Antarctic, with blue lips, they'll be more effectively ugly. The penguins will be talking among themselves asking: "Who are these smurf lipped idiots ?"

Antarctica is some of the purest untouched wilderness in the world. I hope they don't produce a lot of pollution if they do set up bases of operation there.

They have a tendency to overstate their actual ambitions... Still they have the potential to cause a great deal of problems in a world that seems to be allowing them to do crazy garbage... Although old and out of date they do have a large amount of military hardware at their disposal.

Yes they would and the Iranians would be as blue as smurfs.
