That couldnt possibly be the yearly cost per household... thats probably the cost per 5 years or something. Its still way too much though.
There has been a recent report, which I posted the link for, according to which the welfare expense are over $ 1 trillion. There are about 50 million poor (by government definition) in the US. So the per capita spending is about $ 20,000 per poor person and over $ 60,000 per poor household
annually.
But due to government inefficiency I suppose at least half the funds at least are wasted on wages for government employees and contractors or by outright theft.
