This was a scary story. I think we all knew that Ratzinger was anti-Israel anyway. Apparently he wants a global community with a corresponding authority to rule it all. I don't see how that he as a supposed Christian could go along with something like this when it resembles very much what is described in the book of Revelations as being what the antichrist would be doing.

One thing to note is that the world as a whole and Israel have always been at odds, and so any attempt to unify the world will be bad for Israel. He's basically asking for Israel and all other individual nations to sacrifice their identity, to mesh and blend with the rest of the world.

Assimilation like that is not going to be something that would be good for any distinct people, but the Jews have already been heavily targeted for assimilation for a very long time and it has done a lot of damage to the Jewish people already.

Also imagine the power trip a word leader would have! You know presidents and dictators of individual nations abuse their power. Now imagine giving even a small group of leaders even more power!

Exactly. I think Israel's borders are even more important for them to dissolve because Israel is placed into a region into which it's very different from the surrounding countries. It's hard to make a united world or a united region when you have a people in existence there that are so distinctly different from every other people.

I don't think any one person should have as much influence over as many people as the Pope does even now. I can't imagine how horrible it would be if he or some other individual had even more power, especially over the whole world.

As a Jew, I do not want to live under a Catholic or Islamic theocratic power..  Both have mass murdered their fair share of Jewish people.  That isn't to say that I think all Catholics are bad and I know many support Jewish people and don't always agree with the human elected to the g-dlike status of Pope. 

Moral guidance of the Catholic church hasn't always fared well for the Jews..  My grandmother's village was attacked many times in pogroms done by Polish Catholics under the moral guidance of the Catholic Church.  My aunt Gittel (as I recently found out) was murdered and died in my grandfather's arms in one of these very pogroms, done under such "Moral Guidance".

On another note, I wish all Catholic countries can be under their own guidance and throw out the Ottoman trash rather then let them breed their own religion out of extinction.  European Catholic countries actually have some of the lowest birthrates in the worlds, even more so than non-Catholic European countries.  How ironic is that?
