I think Noah did meet Abraham. Shem certainly did.
« on: September 09, 2013, 04:47:11 PM »
The earlier generations lived longer. Adam lived to be 930. Noah was 600 when the Flood began in 1656. Abraham was born in 1948. The earlier generations were spread out more but as the later generations started to live shorter, their descendants outlived many of them. I think Noah died while Abraham was alive. Shem, Noah's son, is Malkitzedek, King of Salem (Jerusalem) in Parashat Lech Lecha.

Shem and his son Ever also ran a yeshiva in Tzvat were Jacob studied. Abraham died when Jacob was a teenager. That's when Jacob bought the birthright. The lentil soup was the food he was serving Isaac while he was sitting shiva since it is a mourner's food. That day Esav also killed Nimrod, the grandson of Noah. Esav also commited adultery and either theft or idolatry that day. I might be idolatry since those 3 are the 3 cardinal sins. I guess the adultery was that he raped a married woman.

Esav killed Nimrod to steal the garment of Adam. Nimrod took it from Noah. It was passed down. The same garment is also the "coat of many colors".

I have done the calculations once myself, I posted them here sometime ago too on another thread. Shem was alive and if I remember correctly even outlived Abraham. I think he lived till 777 or so.

You can see the chart of when each generation lived in the back of the ArtScroll Tanach.

What blows my mind is that Abraham was born 1948. In the secular calendar, wasn't that when Israel gained its independence?

Also, he was 48 during the story of the Tower of Babel.

48 + 48 = 96.

Israel was 48 years old in the year 1996 C.E..

Nothing. I just remember thinking in 1996 that Israel was 48 years old and founded in 1948.

Netanyahu was elected.  Man, the Torah is one mathematical and mystical book!
