On the night train from Tel Aviv I heard someone (Hebrew speaker) saying he wants to vote Hadash but if they run in a united arab front he might abstain.

Anyways I don't think there is much correlation between the electorates of Shas and the Arab parties even though Aryeh Deri could easily run in either one of them.

Maariv Poll: Shas Does Not Get into Knesset – Lieberman Crashes


Maariv reports that if the Arab parties unite, which now appears likely, Shas will not succeed in passing the minimum threshold and will not be in the 20th Knesset. The Ha’Am Itanu party headed by Eli Yishai receives four seats and Yisrael Beitenu is knocked down from 13 seats in the outgoing Knesset to 6 seats. According to the poll, the “Zionist camp” headed by Labor leader Yitzchak Herzog receives 23 votes and Likud headed by Binyamin Netanyahu receives 23 votes. Bayit Yehudi receives 18 seats and the combined Arab alignment increases from a total of 11 seats among the three parties in today’s Knesset to 13. Yesh Atid headed by Yair Lapid received 11 seats, down from 19, and Yahadut Hatorah remains at 7. The Kulanu party headed by Moshe Kahlon receives 7 seats. Meretz remains the same with 6.

 No, but when the votes are counted and more of the Arabs get in, then less of the votes count.

 It depends of how many people vote , how many parties pass the threshold etc.

Yeah by having a bigger party get a bigger turnout, it makes the threshold higher.  harder for the small parties to get in.
