The falsehood which is published by the AFP in the guise of news is frightening. Such a 'news organization' should be called on the gross bias and false reporting which is done. AFP is a Jew hating organization which doesn't regret or retract any of its proven false allegations.

They claim that Israel opened 'dams' to purposefully flood gaza in order to kill innocent babies. There is one problem with this story though? Israel has no 'dams' in the south of Israel to open... So this is another example of 'blood libel' slander against the Jewish state.

Quote
French News Agency AFP has reportedly published a “baseless” report which claimed that Israel has deliberately flooded villages in Gaza by opening dam gates.

Agence France Presse (AFP), a French news agency, posted a brief news clip on Sunday, titled “Gaza village floods after Israel opens dam gates,” alleging that Israel has deliberately flooded Gaza by opening dams.

The fact is that Israel has no dams that can be opened in southern Israel, and this report is completely baseless, CAMERA (Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America) reports.

In the video, Ead Zino, a resident of Al-Maghraqa in the Gaza Strip, accuses Israel of deliberate destruction: “Every four years there is a war, but here in Maghraqa every year there is a flood. This water comes from Israel. This is political. All Israel wants is to destroy us.”

AFP Lies, Dam Lies and Floods

An update has been appended to this story noting that the video has been pulled from websites.

Agence France Presse, the French wire service, has trouble passing up on a juicy story, however unsubstantiated and flimsy, accusing Israel of wrongdoing. Three years ago, the influential news agency refused to clarify the unsubstantiated allegation that an Israeli soldier ran over a Palestinian worker with a construction vehicle.

Later that year, AFP editors failed to correct the false claim that an Israeli airstrike had killed 11-year-old Mahmoud Sadallah, though multiple other media outlets responsibly clarified that it was Hamas weaponry that killed the boy.

Two months ago, the French news outlet declined to clarify an article claiming that an Israeli arsonist was responsible for a fire in a West Bank mosque, though the Associated Press, New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Haaretz all commendably followed up with reports and/or corrections noting that an Israeli investigation determined that it was an electrical fire.

Most recently, this week AFP posted a brief video ("Gaza village floods after Israel opens dam gates") claiming that Israel has deliberately flooded Gaza by opening dams. In fact, Israel has no dams that can be opened in southern Israel.

In the video, Ead Zino, a resident of Al-Maghraqa, accuses Israel: "Every four years there is a war but here in Maghraqa every year there is a flood. This water comes from Israel. This is political. All Israel wants is to destroy us."

In addition, AFP's caption at the beginning of the video is "Gaza village flooded as Israel opens dam gates."

AFP did not include any Israeli voice to refute the false charge.

Regarding the claim that Israel opened dams, thereby flooding Gaza, a spokesman for the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) told CAMERA:

The claim is entirely false, and southern Israel does not have any dams. Due to the recent rain, streams were flooded throughout the region with no connection to actions taken by the State of Israel.

Prior to the storm, the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories allowed the transfer of four water pumps belonging to the Palestinian Water Authority from Israel into Gaza to supplement the 13 pumps already in the Gaza Strip in dealing with any potential flooding throughout the area.
In addition, Nechemia Shahaf, the head of the Drainage Authority for the Shakma-Besor Region, confirmed to CAMERA that there are no dams which can be opened and closed in southern Israel. Shahaf said, "There is a diverting dam one meter high which directs water to reservoirs. This is a low dam which cannot be opened or closed." He also noted that the singular dam, which cannot be opened, is next to Kibbutz Gvulot, and approximately 20 kilometers away from Gaza.

CAMERA has contacted AFP editors, requesting clarification.

Al Jazeera and Russia Today have also published the unfounded allegations.

2/23 Update: Following correspondence from CAMERA, AFP has apparently decided to pull its video claiming Israel flooded Gaza by opening dams. As of this afternoon, pages hosting the video on the AFP website, YouTube, and Yahoo News are now out of commission. CAMERA continues to call on AFP to publish a correction informing news consumers of the error.

AFP Lies, Claims Israel 'Flooded Gaza' with Nonexistent Dam
AFP video report alleges that Gaza has been deliberately flooded by Israel - despite the fact Israel has no dams in the south.
By Ari Yashar
First Publish: 2/23/2015

Agence France Presse (AFP) has been caught publishing a blatant lie against Israel after similar cases in the past, posting a video this week claiming "Gaza village floods after Israel opens dam gates," in a claim of deliberate flooding disproved by the fact that Israel has no dams in the south.

In the video a resident of Gaza, Ead Zino from Al-Maghraqa, claims "every four years there is a war but here in Maghraqa every year there is a flood. This water comes from Israel. This is political. All Israel wants is to destroy us."

No Israeli source was brought into the report to refute the blatant lie.

CAMERA spoke with a spokesperson for the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), who clarified "the claim is entirely false, and southern Israel does not have any dams. Due to the recent rain, streams were flooded throughout the region with no connection to actions taken by the State of Israel."

The spokesperson added that before the heavy storm that struck last Thursday, COGAT "allowed the transfer of four water pumps belonging to the Palestinian Water Authority from Israel into Gaza to supplement the 13 pumps already in the Gaza Strip in dealing with any potential flooding throughout the area."

Likewise Nechemia Shahaf, head of the Drainage Authority in the Shakma-Besor Region outside Gaza in the Negev, clarified to CAMERA that while there is a small diverting dam in the south, it cannot be opened or closed and is the only dam of any sort in the region.

"There is a diverting dam one meter high which directs water to reservoirs. This is a low dam which cannot be opened or closed," said Shahaf, adding that the dam is located next to Kibbutz Gvulot around 20 kilometers (over 12 miles) away from Gaza.

CAMERA points out this is far from the first time AFP has run a false story slandering Israel.

Three years ago it refused to clarify an unsubstantiated allegation that an IDF soldier had run over a Palestinian Arab worker with a construction vehicle, notes the group, and later the same year didn't correct the false claim that an IAF airstrike killed 11-year-old Mahmoud Sadallah even after numerous other outlets clarified that it was Hamas's weapons that killed him.

We should be so lucky if Israel did that. They want to throw us into the sea. They deserved to be drowned Mida KeNeged Mida. They should drown in the Suez Canal which is where the Splitting of the Red Sea took place.

Unfortunately I agree with you Binyamin. At this stage I lose hope that even arab children are redeemable. They are being brainwashed into hating us, and would kill us with everything at their disposal if we allow them to. If only a great storm washes them out to sea.

But we should not allow them to distort facts. We all know that Israels politicians are too timid to take any provocative action. I am still dumbfounded why Israel is paying for these scoundrels electricity. Any mention of cutting their free electricity is met with hysterical condemnation. But it is insanity to provide power to those who are using it to try to kill us.
