Come on....realistic...Sonny Corleone was played by a half Jewish Gentile.

It's realistic to some extent and the characters are composites of real mafiosi- Vito Corleone is based on Frank Costello and Lucky Luciano and some other dons probably. Hyman Roth is supposed to be a fictional Meyer Lansky. There is a Frank Sinatra type of character too and Mo Green is Bugsy Siegal and so forth.

I would call it glorified reality. Unlike most movies the main characters aren't bullet proof and don't posses super human capabilities. It is a good movie, one of the all time bests.

It’s not often that a sequel to a film universally lauded as a masterpiece manages to exceed the original. But that’s exactly what director Francis Ford Coppola has accomplished with The Godfather Part II, his extraordinary follow-up to The Godfather, and one of the first films to explore the role of the Jewish Mafia.

Brilliant in every way, The Godfather Part II is not just a great crime film, but one of the finest motion pictures ever produced. The story picks up where its predecessor left off with young Michael Corleone (Al Pacino, never better) now the Don of the syndicate’s most powerful Mafia family.

With a sprawling, but well-managed storyline involving many different characters and events, the film details Corleone’s efforts to make the family business legitimate by building it around a Las Vegas casino that is now the hub of their considerable financial empire.

Godfather Part II also contains a major subplot involving Hyman Roth (Lee Strasberg, excellent in his first screen role), the leader of the Jewish Mafia, who in one scene describes their combined criminal enterprise to Corleone by declaring “we’re bigger than U.S. Steel.”

That infamous quotation has been credited to real-life Jewish mobster Meyer Lansky, the highest ranking and most powerful Jewish mobster in American history, on whom the character of Roth is obviously based.

The suspicion that exists and eventually erupts between Corleone and Roth illustrates the historical tension between Jewish and Italian/Sicilian criminal elements. It’s a fact partially fleshed out when Roth, angry that Corleone has decided not to join him in the financing of operations in Cuba, makes reference to another minor but important Jewish character from the first film, Moe Green, the casino operator Corleone had assassinated.

Though the character of Moe Green is seen here only in flashback, his presence (even in absentia) calls attention to the actual Jewish mobsters who were instrumental in launching the mob’s Las Vegas operations (prominent among this group was Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel, but the initiative actually involved other notable Jewish gangsters).

What they had there was quite a different bird than what was going on here in the United States... It was a more pay for play system there... Influence, protection and the like... Here in the United States it was booze, gambling, prostitution, drugs and the like... Quite a different thing.

Everyone has seen this rather perturbing 43 year old film numerous times decades ago.

Who thought up the idea of re-showing it davka at this time, and not in Tel Aviv, but in the Old City of Jerusalem of all inappropriate places?!



There is a subliminal message here somehwere & it will only strengthen the klippos and kochos hatuma and even energize on some spiritual level corruption, conspiracy, treachery and murder in Eretz Yisroel, led by the Godfather himself, the Judophobic actor Marlon Brando!

Looks like I'm agreeing once again with Yerusha on this.

Hollywood is selling an immoral image. This cannot be denied. Just look at how kids today (and in my day) are so influenced by the things and people they see in movies. These 'stars' are corrupt, and usually promote an immoral lifestyle. Hollywood has no moral compass and does whatever it takes to sell their films. I have not gone to a theater in over 13 years now and seldom see modern movies (though things from the 70s-90s occasionally I watch on youtube)...

Israel (the Jewish people of Israel) should not seek to emulate the ways of the nations. If we are to really fulfill the mission of the Jewish people in Erez Yisroel then we should be outraged at this kind of thing. Living in galut myself I know how the culture of America can alter Jewish reality (witness the pathetic liberal democrat Jews)...

Maybe I sound harsh but I think the Jews in Jerusalem have more important things to do than watch this movie (which probably can be watched online if desired).

The Mafia started out as a protection group when the French ruled Sicily.The really brutal bums are the Russian mafia,they torture people to death and will kill even family members of the the guys they want to hit.And they kill in a very brutal way similar to ISIS

Actually I think they did play a big part in it along with the  Italians... They were Brooklyn gangsters... As I remember  old timer who worked with me years ago talked about how they ran a car dealership over on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn years ago... He must have worked there as a kid and told me some stories of what the place was like.
