Got furloughed
« on: April 12, 2020, 09:58:36 AM »
Hi guys. I think the last time I was really happy was when I went on vacation to Dallas back in February. I got to visit the Sixth Floor Museum (was very interesting and sad honestly but I was glad I got a chance to go), try out a new place to eat I wanted to go to since reading about it, and I attended a fan convention that was lots of fun. I enjoyed seeing people's costumes and attending panels and concerts.

Anyway all that changed after I got home. Not long after my family's 13 year old Corgi started having health problems and had to be put to sleep. We were just trying to mourn her and the grief from that was still raw when I had some dental work done and ended up with TMJ afterward which is where the joints in the back of the jaw get really painful. I'm trying to get treated for that as best I can. After that all the lockdown stuff started happening. I couldn't go to the movies with my friend group which was one of the things we loved to do the most or go to any other meetings with them. We had an event set to see Onward together and it got messed up because of the virus. Soon I had to start wearing an N95 mask when I went outside. Then I got furloughed off my job. Now I'm struggling to get in touch with unemployment which is completely overwhelmed and hard to get through to. They were supposed to be taking calls yesterday on Saturday but I called over 500 times and couldn't get through.

I'll be really glad when this nightmare ends because I'm getting really overwhelmed.

I know a lot of other people have it much worse, especially if they've lost family members... but I really kind of wish I could go back to February and just enjoy life again.  :'(

Bizras Hashem you find a much better job and you get in contact with unemployment soon. You should try to get a social worker around you to help you sign up for unemployment.

Rubystars. Look I have read this book just shortly before. And there are all the addresses  and tips in that you need just now:

Clarey, Aaron : Enjoy the decline

The book says we should use the socialist services. That's effective if it's mass organized to force the government to stop. As such he's just being cheeky. If it's just a joke, kay, if he's serious then I oppose. Whether you take advantage of socialism is irrelevant, people who care should fight or it will get worse.

I also don't like people who've decided we're in the socialists' world now. Just 30 years ago they were fighting to be taken as anything but a joke. Their latest propaganda is that they own the culture, but most people still hate them.

Of cause you are right in general about it.

But the list of social services and the ideas how to get the support can be helpfull for Ruby in the moment.

Hi Rubystars.

8m also furloughed from my job.  I was told I'd be going back to work 5be beginning of May, but I don't think it will happen.  Calling for your unemployment benefits is really a pain.  Is there any way you can sign up online?

Thank you. My unemployment got approved but I have to wait until later in the week to be able to request payment. I live in Texas still. I hope you and your family are doing well.

Since unemployment is taken out of my payroll taxes every time I get paid it's more like insurance than socialism.

I signed up online but then it told me they needed more information and to call a number. The number was slammed with applicants and I was never able to get through, but on Tuesday morning when I went to check my online portal it said that I could request payment this coming Sunday. So it looks like someone went ahead and approved it.
