Title: Throw the Jew down the well?
Post by: Bodhi on November 01, 2007, 06:19:48 PM
I just watched the movie Borat.........Have any of you watched it and what do you think of it......is it ok for him to say these things only because he happens to be Jewish...if he were not a Jew and he made this movie then what  ??  He made a lot of money making this film, and I didn't know how bizzare it really was until now, but for all who have seen it please comment on what you think about this kind of thing.

  Thanks

I think that Borat will burn in hell for making his movie, since he is desicrating G-d's name by acting like a Shvartza nutcase and representing the Jewish people in that way.  I saw this part of the movie on Youtube and I think that this piece of the movie was actually good for all people to see, especially the self hating Jews and to see that R' Kahane was right.  R' Kahane said that Jews are not safe anywhere in the exile, and that anti semitism always lurks under the surface of society.  It only takes a time of crises or poverty for it to be released.  This clip shows that when the guy sings a catchy anti semitic tune, everyone joins in which shows that the Rav was right.

I really don't have much of a problem with it in that you have to be a total retard not to realize he's doing it as a joke, and he should be cut some slack because he is indeed Jewish (and supposedly religious to boot).  Now, as for the people who really want to throw Jews down a well (and unfortunately there are a lot I'm sure), they should be dealt with harshly.

Borat that dirt bag makes me sick, I really hope he dies.  I would only love to knock his teeth out.  He sells out the Jewish people in the worst way, just to make a buck

Borat was HILARIOUS!  And he exposes nuts from all sides of the coin....especially anti-semites..

The "throw the jew down the well" song is making fun of anti-semetic people.

The whole point of his humor is to mock anti-Semitism and make anti-Semites look stupid.  BORAT does it in the best way I've seen.  In my opinion, there is no better way to show people how stupid anti-Semitism is than the method Sacha Baron Cohen uses.  He is doing a service to Jews  because millions of people have seen his film and TV shows and his work has helped to show people how silly and ridiculous anti-Semitism is.  Also, his "throw the Jew down the well" skit is a warning to Jews, because it shows us that ignorant people can easily become anti-Semitic and that there is always a danger of a resurgence.

I wish that to be true... However have you seen the type of people that go to the movies in general.
They aren't sophisticated or well educated to understand the satire and humor behind it all, I think that it might have a negative effect in the long run. If played to the right audience 'It's Great' I personally enjoyed it!

dannycookies, I am surprised that you are defending Borat.

I have not seen it but a friend of mine who did said there was some vile nude wrestling scene with another dude.

Why would you defend such vile behaviour?

It's true that you do have to assume a certain level of intelligence on the part of the viewer.  Given the state of the world, this may indeed be a big assumption, but at least the intelligent people get it.

I have never seen the film, but might someday. I absolutely believe Sacha Cohen is a self-hating worm (he married a Gentile), but there is value in revealing how much anti-Semitism lurks in America at large.

Oh vile doesnt begin to describe that scene...

I loved the scene where he was talking to the feminists...and they were prattling on and on....and on...and he was thinking to himself "I could not concentrate on what this old man next to me was saying" :::D

He is a proud Jew, he eats Kosher and keeps shabbat to an extent.  He's also lived in Israel.  His gentile wife converted to Judaism before he married her and they had a traditional Jewish wedding.

He's not self-hating at all, he's an upright Jew.

that part was gross actually, but I still laughed by arse off anyway...Everytime i that scene came up i did have to look away...

However, you are accusing me of defending that behavior?!...When did I do that in any of my posts?  All  i said was that the movie was hilarious. Listen, if you want to be an effective jtfer, don't put words in peoples' mouths...we will never become a mass movement with that type of stupid method of arguement...It makes you look uneducated without any class. Just my two cents.

So nice try to attempt to do that to me....but it won't fly...

I don't think a REAL Jew would make such a dirty movie!

Yeah sure, it had it's really funny parts...but NO!

it wasn't anti-semitic, it was showing how Jews were portrayed in Muslim societies. Real Jews are nothing like that.....

He is a pervert, and  certainly acts a bit feminine at times.  One of his early programs was as a chassid that walks down the street, and starts singing "I`m Shvitzing"  (yiddish for sweating). And he starts taking off his clothes, singing "I take off my hat, my lovely wooly hat, I`m shvitching, shvitzing". It was funny initially but got a bit disgusting when he is wearing tight Y front underpants and posing hiss leg at the camera, a bit feminine.

He has another character called Bruno who plays a homosexual from austria very convincingly. In that role he does not do anything perverted. Some of his speech is a bit perverted though. It is a very clever character. Here he interviews some neo nazis.

Some of his jokes are realy wulgar and heavy as german humour; I liked him making fun on antisemites and feminists but I woud not recomend him for children or sensitive persons; 2/3 is extremly funy rest is extremly discusting plus the nazi muslims think that Borat is antisemitic and they do like him. :-\

I personally found this movie absolutely hysterical. I was literally crying thoughout most of the movie I was laughing so hard! I never interpreted what he did as being antisemetic, but that he was poking fun at antisemites. I think it's important to see that and realize that and understand the difference. I thought one of the funniest lines was when he was talking about going to California to meet Pamela Anderson, he insisted on driving to California because he didn't want to fly "In case the Jews did another 9/11." I cracked up laughing so hard at this since I realized that he was bashing all the 9/11 conspiracists who say that the Jews and the Zionists were behind 9/11. He was not bashing Jews when he said this.

The "Throw the Jew down the well" scene was not in the actual movie. I saw this video on youtube. What I found particularly disturbing was not so much Borat singing this song as much as the audience's positive response to this. Borat was just an act. But the people were all real. So their responses were not acts, it's how they really felt.

Adam, in that case, your mother could show you the movie and just skip past the naked fight between Borat and his friend Azamat because Borat caught him making "hand party over Pamela" :) It was the funniest scene in the movie as well as one of the funniest things I've ever seen, period. But the rest of the movie contains no nudity.

I gave this subject a little more thought and now I realize that maybe the movie did have some danger in that it was very popular with kids.  In fact, I remember seeing the movie in a theater mostly full of kids, even though it was rated R.  I think a lot of their parents took them for some reason (maybe they wanted to see it too).  I guess it is possible for a kid to be influenced by some of the satirical anti-semitic elements if they couldn't understand the sarcasm, though somes kids are smarter than we think.  I still think Cohen didn't mean to promote anti-semitism, and he isn't the gatekeeper responsible for who sees the film.

I don't get it! Why on earth would a "Jew" make or star in a movie where Jewish Law speaks against it??!!! >:(

"Hand party", why would a Jew make such a movie!?  >:( >:( >:(

This gives ammunition to anti-Jews.
