Obama announces opening of US Embassy in Cuba – Hillary Celebrates
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made sure to give her official endorsement of the re-opening of a U.S. embassy in Cuba, a part of President Obama’s restoration of diplomatic relations with the communist country.
Senior administration officials informed CNN that the president and Sec. John Kerry are expected to announce the restored embassy this week. The embassy will be located at the same building where it operated over 50 years ago before the two countries severed their diplomatic ties. The re-opening of the embassy is part of a series of actions taken by the administration to fully restore relations with Cuba, including removing it from the list of state sponsors of terror, lifting travel restrictions, and reversing punitive economic policies.
Among those who have been highly critical of Obama’s restoration of relations with Cuba is Republican presidential candidate Sen. Marco Rubio, who had particularly harsh words in response to the administration’s “terrible” decision to remove the communist regime from the terror sponsor list despite its history of backing terror groups.
