Trump in 2008: Hillary Would “Make Good President”
He calls her “Crooked Hillary” now that he’s expecting to face her in this year’s presidential election, but eight years ago Donald Trump had praise for Hillary Clinton on a radio feature called “Trumped!”
The Wall Street Journal found audio and transcripts for several of the one-minute episodes that ran from 2004 to 2008 where he opined on pop culture, business and politics.
As then-New York Sen. Clinton and then-Illinois Sen. Barack Obama were duking it out for the Democratic nomination that would eventually go to Obama, Trump noted that “at least one member of [Mr. Obama’s] team said Clinton would make a good vice president. Well, I know her, and she’d make a good president or a good vice president.”
An Obama-Clinton or Clinton-Obama ticket would be considered a “dream ticket” by many, he noted, though he added that one would have to be willing to take the No. 2 position.
The Journal noted that Trump had praised Clinton as far back as 1997 when his book “The Art of the Comeback” featured of photo of him with her and his sons. He called her “a wonderful woman who has handled pressure incredibly well.”
