Unlike Barack Obama, Sarah Palin is a true outsider to Washington politics and the media has been giving her an all-out lynching in hopes she'll crack under the pressure of the spotlight.
With the announcement that her 17-year-old daughter Bristol was pregnant, the media has somehow miraculously found a moral compass. The media so used to glamorizing oral sex, single motherhood, absentee fathers and middle-aged hags acting like their still in their 20's (see Sex and the City for references) used a private family matter to criticize the Palin's parenting, as well as social and religious conservatives, as if they are somehow at fault.
Unfortunately for them, Bristol Palin is not running for office. The Palin's are not just talking the talk, they're walking the walk. Mark Foley, David Vitter and Larry Craig were all leading Republicans who preached family values, only to engage in licentious behavior that they "supposedly" detested. Instead of the "do as I say, not as I do" mantra we see from so many politicians, they are helping their daughter in what will be a very difficult period in itself (let alone under media scrutiny).
The media's obsession with this issue show their own weakness. they refuse to debate her on legitmate issues. With a declining dollar, conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, a nuclear Iran and a growing national debt, they only issue they want to confront her on is her daughter pregnancy. They do this because unlike Obama, she is more qualified, experienced and poised, something they didn't expect from a party that had a President who couldn't even pronounce nuclear during his right year tenure.
The Palin family is dealing with an difficult issue that effects thousands of young women and their families across the country. I knew a young womenin high school whose boyfriend and parents constantly encouraged her to terminate the pregnancy, but instead she kept the baby to term and gave her daughter up for adoption. It was an incredibly difficult decision to make, but she gave her daughter to people who could provide her with a loving, stable environment.
But how them media contradicts itself is no greater than their coverage of the John Edwards Sex scandal. When Edwards wife was diagnosed with bone cancer last year, instead of deciding to withdraw from the campaign and take care of her and his family, he continued it and even used his sick wife's condition to garner sympathy and campaign contributions. Meanwhile, it turns out the Enquirer broke the story of Edward's affair with Rielle Hunter in Oct/Nov. While the Enquirer is not exactly the Holy Grail of journalistic standards, I'm pretty sure if they came across evidence on a presidential candidate that explosive, they would have made damn sure to cross their T's and dot their i's. But Edward's pregnant mistress was a well kept secret of the MSM, which claims it kept the story out of the headlines b/c of his wife's precarious condition.
If you believe that, then i have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you. The truth is if the media exposed Edward's for the lying cad that he was, there is no doubt that Hillary would have won a majority of the primaries and there anointed Obama would still be attending sermons at Rev. Wright's Church.
So Edward's shared his mistress amongst his friends, who played doting babysitter's during her pregnancy, used campaign funds from his political action committee to pay her off (which is illegal), and only confessed to having an affair on national television while the whole words was watching the Olympic ceremonies. Talk about a class act.
So while the media fakes a sense moral superiority for now, remember Bristol was a teenage who made a mistake and is taking responsibility for her actions. Edwards was a married father of three and public official who deceived his supporters, his sick wife and their 3 children, children who may soon not have their mother they can rely on.
