Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni rebuffs a French-proposed ceasefire in the Gaza Strip saying 'there is no humanitarian crisis in the Strip'. "There is no humanitarian crisis in the Strip, and therefore there is no need for a humanitarian truce," the Foreign Ministry quoted Livni as saying in a statement on Thursday.
The statement added, "Israel has been supplying comprehensive humanitarian aid to the Strip ... and has even been stepping this up by the day."
French proposal calls for a 48-hour ceasefire in the Gaza Strip which would allow a freer flow of humanitarian aid into the bombarded coastal territory. Israel had rejected the proposal on Wednesday.
The decision was reached after a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Defense Minister Ehud Barak, and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.
In fresh raids on the sixth day of hostilities, Israeli aircraft and naval forces attacked about 20 Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.
While only six Israelis have died and 16 have been wounded since Saturday, the Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have left over 2,000 Palestinians injured and at least 410 dead including many women and children.
