The State of North Carolina cowered in the face of political correctness and wimped out by making an official "Apology for Slavery." It's mind-boggling how people have become so cowardly and sick in their desire to be seen as "politically correct" that they absolutely refuse to learn the truth about so-called "slavery" in the South. First of all, there is absolutely no need to "apologize" for something that ENDED 150 YEARS AGO!!!!! GET OVER IT!!!!! The way some of these PC toadies moan and cry with their profuse "apologies" for so-called "slavery," one would think that the "slaves" were only freed yesterday. Did you know that what the PC history books call "slavery" in the South was really indentured servitude, and that the so-called "slaves" were compensated for their labor.... they were clothed, fed, and housed for free and after a short period (usually 7 years or so) the indentured servant was considered free to leave his "master" and go wherever he wanted and do whatever he pleased. Also, on many Southern plantations, the wives and daughters of the plantation owners took it upon themselves to teach their so-called "slaves" reading, writing, and arithmetic, and educated the "slaves" as though they were their own sons and daughters!!!!! Many of these so-called "slaves" became better educated than many poor whites in the South. Many black "slaves" in the South knew that they had it good working on the plantations, and volunteered to defend the Southern cause by fighting on behalf of the Confederacy. The Confederacy even issued their own "Emancipation Proclamation" before Lincoln did (I read that in a book about Judah Benjamin). The "official" history of so-called "slavery" in the South that was written by PC historians and found in school textbooks is fraught with lies.... what has become known as the "slavery period" in the South prior to the Civil War was NOT a monstrous period of abuse or mistreatment that the PC historians make it out to be. Here's to hoping that North Carolinians get their heads out of their ***** and take back that bogus "apology." There's nothing to apologize for. Let's also hope that no other State will resort to this kind of stupidity.
