I think the point being made is that at this point, we know nothing about hum other than that he is supposedly a Muslim. But without having any other cause to indict him (like, say, an anti-Semitic comment) it is a misuse of energy to work yourself into a rage just because he'll be playing a minor professional sport. Such energy would be better focused on real problems, like global anti-Jewish violence by religious Muslims.
Hockey is not a minor professional sport, and the existence of an Islamic hockey player, especially if he is a really good one (and he appears to be) will go a long way towards causing even more people to feel warm fuzzies in their heart for Muzscum, especially in a liberal and secular place like Canada is.
In Canada it may well be the dominant sport, but in the US, fans are in rather short supply. At least here, it is a minor sport. That aside, I somehow doubt that anybody who has yet to buy into the multiculturalism of the left and embrace Islam are suddenly going to rally around it because one self-declared member of the faith can shoot the occasional puck into a net. I think you seriously overestimate his relevance to anybody other than questionably observant Muslims that want to take pride in his success. If he gives us cause to react that way you have, I can promise you that the rest of us will join you in your opposition to him. But as of yet, I've seen no reason to expend energy worrying about him when there are much bigger issues, like Obama betraying Israel (expected as it was), Netanyahu lacking a spine, and the Jihadists securing a stronger foothold throughout Western Europe.
