Having grown up in the 60's and 70's here in New York  I have observed the behavior of Liberal Jews towards blacks first hand . Being well aware of the boilerplate reasons for this alliance I have to say I never personally understood what Jews thought they were getting out of the relationship. Chaim has spoken about it many times in different shows but it would make a good question for this weeks ask JTF.

My take:

Leftist Jews see Blacks as proletariates in their Marxist revolution.  Marxism is all about the struggle, which can involve class, gender, and in the Black's case, race.   Blacks are used as a tool by leftist Jews to bring down the powerful white wealthy Christian bourgeoisie ruling class which has persecuted the Jews in the past.  It's a carry-over from centuries of persecution in Europe and Russia.

Additionally, leftist Jews see a multicultural society as benefiting the Jews.  They aren't the only minority and therefore not the focus of discrimination.  And a horrible minority like the Blacks takes a lot of heat off the Jews.   

My main point is that leftist Jews "revering" Blacks has more to with Jewish survival than actually liking Blacks. I grew up surrounded by leftist Jews who fought for the Blacks, yet never once did they invite one into their houses other than to clean it.  It's hard to explain in a few sentences.  I don't expect many people to understand this.
