(1) Why is Talmud Bavli studied much more than Talmud Yerushalmi?  Why didn't the Tanaim and Amoraim who lived in Bavel move to Eretz Yisrael?  Did they have an excuse?  With the utmost respect to our holy sages, I  find it very strange that the yeshivot of Pombadisa and Nahardaha thrived for centuries under the tutalege of the great sages who failed to move to Eretz Yisrael.   

(2) Chaim - I would like to share with you and the other JTFers a porch sand monkey story.  Granted this story is several months old, but i am not sure it made it to the forum.  Abdul-Fazal Chowdhury, 22-year old Bangladeshi native, was found dead in his cell at 4pm on Friday Macomb County Jail (near Detroit) with his penis severed and throat slashed with a razor blade from a shaving tool available through the jail's commissary. Interestingly the severed penis is still missing. Local Muslim leaders want to know more about the apparent suicide of this murder suspect.  The gruesome nature of Chowdhury's death have led some relatives and local Muslim leaders to question whether he actually was murdered, and the Detroit News reports Sheriff Mark Hackel will meet with them today to discuss the investigation.  "People are beginning to believe it could have been a homicide in the jail," Kamal Rahman, president of the Hamtramck branch of the NAACP, told the Detroit Free Press. "There are some questions that need to be answered."

No question this week but I want to tell you an affirmative action story that happened to me on my way to Israel. I checked in at the Swiss Air  in LA and walked to Security where I get this 22 year old schvartza who was probley a High School dropout you know he gots to have a GED. Well I gave him my Passport and he looked at my Passport which has Benjamin as my middle name and he sees Stu as my middle name on my ticket. I had it like that because my travel agent got me a great deal and that is Swiss Air's way of telling that I am on a student ticket. Well I tell this schvartza this and he says "I can''ts lets you go that ain't your name." Well I asked for a supervisor he calls over "Shquinta this cracker boy wants to get through but his ticket ain't the right name." Well I my travel agent and try once more and it didn't work I even tried to get through while on my phone and offered the schvartza to speak directly to my travel agent well it didn't work. So I had to get the Ticket agent from Swiss Air to escort me through and he told the 2 schvartzas to let me through.

Are individual rights "a gift from g*d," as almost all conservatives say, or are they an inherent product of human nature? Conservatives imply that if g*d doesn't exist, then humans are natural slaves, and deserve to live in slavery. This seems absolutely false to me. I think the individual can't live a full and rich life, and can't be truly happy and great, unless he has 100% freedom. I think individual humans -- in all their great diversity and wild variations of quality -- are nevertheless metaphysically and existentially equal, and thus no-one has the right to lord it over anyone else or circumscribe his neighbor's freedom. In my view, anyone who violates his fellow man's absolute, untouchable, and inalienable right to life, liberty, property, and privacy is a subhuman monster. What do you think?

Do you follow any moral guidelines as a small investor ? I mean what sort of industry is banned from your portfolio for moral reason- for example- Tobacco, Casinos, Media, Oil and Gas. Would you as a small investor with no say on the company's management avoid buying such a stock even if it seemed to you like a great investment opportunity ?

And also, will you refrain from buying stocks/debt of companies if it's just their values you disapprove of but not their industry or their professionalism ? For example- a company which officially supports and endorses pro-gay events, or a company that boycotts Israeli settlements.

1. Many people tend to think that the left-wing Aganda that PM Netanyahu has adobted, is a direct result of the pressure from the muslim anti-semite that's sitting in the white house right now. but i beg to differ with them.
Although i know that the international pressure plays a role in this as well, i still have a very hard time ignoring negative things that he's done since he was elected Prime minister (and even before that).
For instance, a few months ago Bibi fought to the death for delaying the elections to the heads of the Likud institutions, so he won't have a fighting opposition within the Likud that will oppose any giving of land to the arabs. Another example is when Bibi was at the Ministerial Legislation Committee and rejected the proposal for granting authority to the Knesset on the freezing of construction in Yesha. In addition to that, even in the Likud primarie (before he was elected) he Specifically promoted the Likud members that are well known as pet dogs of the left (like Minister Dan Meridor, for example), instead of advancing people who actually have a link with the original constitution of the Likud. I have a few more examples like this, but i don't want to bore you with all of it.
Anyway i honestly don't know exactly what's causing all this , but one thing's for sure, these specific actions that Bibi took (and more) do not have any connection to international pressure, as a matter of fact if he had done the exact opposite, he atleast could have had a better excuse to face Obama and he could have told him that he's too weak to carry out his demands.
I think Obama is used as an excuse for quite a few moves that he made, when the reality is that maybe Bibi himself wants to carry them out,  and maybe Bibi is glad to have Obama pressuring him, that way the blame is put mostly on Obama.

Last wednesday was a historical day for the israeli media.  for the first time since the seventies, the title of the most popular newspaper doesn't belong to the bolshevik 'Yediot Achronot' anymore, now that title officially belongs to the newspaper known as 'Yisrael Hayom', which is far from being a real right wing paper but it definitely isn't an anti-zionist one,  it gives truthful reports and it grants an almost equal platform to both right wing and left wing article writers (and  maybe even a bit more to the right). and thats what the whole media is crying about recently (and especialy the owners of the big newspapers), and of course their sadness is our joy (in most cases).

3. I  have a short comment relating the five years that have passed since the so called "disengagement" from Gush Katif and northern Samaria.
The vast majority of Israelis (including many leftists) now claim that the goal of the "disengagement" has not been achieved, and yet again i beg to differ with them,
i mean If Ariel Sharon is NOT prosecuted then that means the goal was certainly achieved, do you agree?

This question is about HaRav Shlomo Riskin. Can you clarify what you know about this Rabbi? First of all, is he a real Rabbi? I happen to listen to his weekly Torah Portion commentary on the website of the "Ohr Torah Stone" Network. Is it Kosher, according to Halacha, to listen to his lessons? (as far as your knowledge)

Second of all, he seems like a very accepted and respected Rabbi amongst his community in Efrat. He's considered to be the "Mara De'Atra" there. What does it mean about the people of Efrat, in terms of their Jewishness?

Hope you are enjoying the cooler weather we are having here and I hope this post finds you well.  I have a couple of questions for your consideration this week:

1.  How would JTF's position regarding gay or lesbian people be different than say the Iranian treatment of homosexuals or the treatment of homosexuals in say Egypt or Saudi Arabia?  If a gay person (or a person perceived to be gay) was attacked for no other reason than being gay, would the attacker be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, the way they would in any other case?

2.  What do you think of Ellen when compared to someone with truly malevolent intentions like Rosie O'Donnell?  I could be worng, but I do not view Ellen in a similar light.  Ellen believes she is making the world a better place for gay and lesbian people.  In my observations, O'Dyke could care less about other people.  She is a hideous character motivated by interpersonal difficulties and genuine nastiness.

3.  I believe in "Don't Ask, don't tell?" for almost all situations except close personal friendships and family?  What do you think of this as a generalizable policy?

4.  Sometimes, I have imagined you as the spiritual father of this movement.  I know you will say Rabbi Kahane is, and you are probably right, but you are the present 'father' of this movement.  However, you are truly a father of sorts to all of us.  By the way, I was watching your video about Fitna and I agree that whenyou said  El Said Nossair, Yimach Schemo v'zithro, murdered Meir Kahane, that other people took over.  No matter which ones of us they manage to take out, there will always be other righteous people to emerge to stop them. I thought this was an excellent point.  To a certain degree, good people will always re-emerge as leaders to stop evil.

Dear Chaim,

I hope you and the members of the forum have had a great week. I was hoping to share an affirmative action story with you and the forum this week if I may (I apologize for the length, however feel it's an important story to relate).

I recently lost my work ID (I've mentioned in the past I work for Memorial Sloan-Kettering), and was required to travel to the main Campus of my job to pick up a new one from the "security office". Upon entering the office, I was greeted by hoots and hollers by a number of filthy schvartze animals who were all standing around telling jokes and I suppose doing what they perceive as "working hard". I literally stood there for about 5-10 minutes, and was completely ignored (in fact not one of these animals would make eye contact with me). While I stood there, another schvartze employee walked in, got what he needed, and left all within a couple of minutes. After about 10 minutes or so I loudly said, "Excuse me! Do I need to state my purpose here?" to which a schvartze animal-ess responded, "WHAT-CHU WANT!?". I calmly explained to her that I'd lost my ID, and needed a new one. She claimed that the ID maker was "switching shifts" (whatever that means) and that I'd have to wait. In other words, there were 5 animals standing around doing absolutely NOTHING, and they are getting paid for this, and nobody can help me w/my ID? What are these animals even there for? I got annoyed I had to wait and so I complained, at which point the Head of security came out to reassure me I would be helped soon. The head of security's name, and I assure you this is no fabrication, is Ronald McDonald. So here I am, being reassured by Ronald McDonald, head of the security for the number one cancer hospital in the United States.
What has this country come to Chaim, when the head of a highly esteemed cancer hospital, named Ronald McDonald, is an affimative action monkey, who more importantly is responsible for the welfare and safety of 10,000 employees and even more patients beside? To make matters worse, prior to my encounter with Ronald McDonald, not knowing who it was, I had overheard him talking to one of his "co-workers" telling a story about his brother who got thrown back in jail, and how he's sick of paying child-support to 3 different women, all of whom he'd had a baby with out of wed-lock. To say the least it was an interesting 10 minutes of waiting around.
Finally, when I DID have someone come to help me, the animal botched by ID four times, having to spell out the word "psychiatry" on my ID, and beginning to spell the word with an S before he realized he'd gotten it wrong. The whole process, which should've taken all of 5 minutes, took these animals an hour. It absolutely blew my mind that these are the heads of the best cancer hospital in the USA.
My question Chaim...is why? WHY in Ha'shem's name are white and self-hating Jews hiring these animals and putting them in charge of the safety of thousands of bright young minds, cancer patients, and some of the smartest doctors in the world? G-d forbid a catastrophe ever occurred within the hospital I would truly fear for my life as well as the lives of others. It just boggles my mind. What is your commentary on this story, and how does it make you feel? It truly instills a hopelessness in me for the future of this country. Thank you Chaim, and may you have a wonderful week.

1. Chaim, someone claimed that the US and British control the oil prices and purposely keep the prices low to "steal the Iranian oil wealth."   What do you have to say about this claim?

2.  This humanoid also claimed that American corporations will "take control" of Iraqi oil companies "when it becomes stable" in order to increase production drastically and drive down the oil prices.   To be honest, that sounds like a great strategy to me.   But is there any evidence that America or American corporations are going to control Iraqi oil companies?   Are they exerting any control right now?  Certainly the prices have not gone down as a result of the invasion of Iraq.
