She looks like she was in a tanning booth too long. She also sounds like the Klan Without The Tan. Actually she seems like both. I guess it's the Southern accent. Isn't it ironic that each Klan hates each the other but they both talk like Ebonics speaking garbage?

The Klan With The Tan and Without The Tan are both bad.

This woman seems like trailer park trash.

It's just missing the UMM HMM at the end.

"My fans"...

The way she says my and the way she says words like fans and friends sounds like the UMM HMM people.

The food she cooks on her show is full of sugar and fat.  I don't understand how people can eat like that.

Once on Yahoo Chat, a white guy was saying thing like "I be" on Voice Chat. He said that's how people talking in the South and he said the blacks "we have here aren't like the ones you have up North". Maybe they know they wouldn't get away with their behavior in big Northern cities if they tried it in the South.

I saw it on TV and wanted to see if someone brought it up here so I just looked up "my fans" and "racist" and found her video because I didn't remember her name. I never heard of her before. She seemed like a piece of white trash to me.

I could never stand this woman. She was no southern belle either. She was a loud mouth stereotype of the South. Cooking with BARS of butter, which is sick. And all along she had diabetes and didn't say anything- but continued to give out her butter laced recipes.
I am not surprised that she's a racist.

What you say reminds of "good ol' Southern cooking, UMM HMM". It reminds me of an AA teacher in college that started talking about food she makes (She was from Mississippi.) and was doing the Ebonics accent. in think she said "You know what I mean." I part of the sentence. Anyone here can just imagine how she was saying it.

Do you have an exact quote of what she said ? It doesn't seem right to fire her just for uttering the n-word. Every other random black celebrity uses that word.

Have mercy  :::D I always found Paula Deen to be quite entertaining... She has a food show that showed people how to cook good "tasten" southern style food whether it was healthful or not is another story...  People who need to watch their diet should not be watching her show anyway... What is the difference that she has diabetes and never disclosed the issue... In most cases people watch shows like that to get an idea on how to cook different dishes not copy what she is doing step by step... People can cut down on the stuff they feel is unhealthful to some extent... Cooks put a great deal of butter into foods because it makes foods taste good... The problem today is people are just nauseatingly to politically correct or struggle to appear so :::D So the woman called someone the N word 20 years ago whats the big deal? Many blacks call each other that in every other sentence... I wonder how many of her critics can pass even half the PC test they are applying to her? It's very easy to say I look down on racism in general but the question I have is how general is general :::D In my opinion the woman should never have   apologized it was a big mistake for her to do so.

In this kind of situation apologies never get you any credit and they don't help. She needs to say "I had a gun pointed at my head and I called the person a name. There's no comparison there." She's being more demonized than the one who pulled a gun on her.

Please  :::D The woman is an entertainer she is not running for public office... What sort of hypocrisy is she guilty of anyway? Not disclosing her health issues on TV? Having racial opinions? Personally I find the cookie cutter world most of the PC bunch is trying to force on society where everyone has to like everyone and disclose every personal issue to the world sickening.

She most likely did herself more damage by apologizing than if she just said nothing... The bottom line is the social snobs and filthy fruits that run that food network just did not care for her and used this issue to move her out of the picture.

As for her being a stereotype, she did exaggerate it a bit for entertainment value. That was her shtick. Mario Batali does the same sort of thing with Italian stuff.

I'd rather see someone like her on tv playing it up in a funny way than someone like Honey Boo Boo and her horrible family doing it in a very damaging way.

True... Just so...  She did play it up but she sort of let you know she was doing it... People watching the show expect it... Years back there was a guy that did a cooking show called the Cajun Cook the guys name was Justin Wilson he use to play it up also and his viewership loved it... He was on for years cooking in his backyard and such... Entertainers like this need to have a gimmick or their days on the air will be quite short.

People need to separate individuals from the characters they play on TV shows. Yes, even "real-life" cooking shows are just that. Shows. Anyone think that Emeril Lagasse was as animated in real life, running around yelling "BAM" all the time, as he was on his live show. He actually did another cooking show and he was very subdued and acted like a pro. The "BAM" Emeril was for the audience's sake on the live show.

Regarding cooking style, no one ever marketed the Paula Dean method as a healthy way of cooking and eating. The fact that she had a medical issue that she chose not to disclose is irrelevant because,as I said, her show was never promoted as a healthy cooking or healthy eating show.

And, remember y'all, it ain't the loads of butter that messes with your insulin level, it's the loads of shoogar.

Justin Wilson was almost 90 years old when he died.  His cooking method might be the key to longevity.  Oh, wait!  No.  That is your gene pool.  You can eat all the butterless food you want...it ain't gonna make all that much difference.

Yes.  Yes, I do.  I see proof of this almost everyday I work.  Living to be almost 90 sounds like a good lifespan to me.
A 'healthy' diet might help you...but most health issues are hereditery.  You have to live life in moderation.

So you admit moderation is healthy.

Some people may be protected by their genes from arterial clogging, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure but allot more people can dodge these common illnesses if they use moderation on sugar, salt, saturated fats and overall caloric intake.

Of course, moderation is common sense.  Right?
I meet people who deprive themselves of all of that...sugar, salt, saturated fats and they exercise.  Yet, they have massive heart attacks and right about the age that a parent suffered the same thing.
Life is to be lived.  Living moderately sounds about right to me.

Paula Deen had a lot of good recipes but they're the kind of thing that you eat occasionally for a treat, not the kind of thing you want to build your core diet around. She even said herself that she's a cook, not a doctor. It was her job to show good tasting recipes, not how to lose weight. Have you guys ever heard the phrase "Never trust a skinny cook?" I wouldn't take it at face value, but it does have a little bit of merit in saying that the best tasting/richest food often isn't the kind of food that's going to keep you skinny. Name your top 10 favorite foods and probably more than half of them are going to be high in something "unhealthy". That doesn't mean you eat that all the time as your regular fare, but it also doesn't mean you can never eat them.

I was thinking the same thing.  You must allow yourself a treat now and then.  Life is short.  I always tell patients...cut out unhealthy food in moderation.  If you say NEVER AGAIN to unhealthy foods...which well meaning family members always do,  I think people shut down and become resentful.  A well balanced diet and exercise is about right....with a few treats thrown in for good measure.

I think they have wanted to fire her since 'America' found out she is a diabetic.
It wouldn't have looked very nice doing that.
So they are using this as an excuse.
I don't blame her for trying to hide that.
Her career is not just about 'herself'.  It is the whole machine that is Paula Deen that is being fired.  Maybe that is what she feared, hurting all the people who depended on her, about exposing her diabetes.

I agree with your post regarding cutting out unhealthy food in moderation. Trouble is, for some people moderation means having unhealthy food once a month, for others it means having it once a week and, for the ones that used to have it every day, it may mean cutting it out once a week.

Well that's why I said it was a start. Someone I knew was putting a lot of sugar in their coffee every morning adding up to a lot of unnecessary calories. They switched to stevia and now they are consuming fewer calories every day. The rest of their diet isn't the best but at least they're at less risk for diabetes because they cut out all that extra sugar every morning. Any change in the right direction helps.  Now if I could just get them to eat less breaded meat.. that would help them a lot too.

No, I was attempting humor... The Torah actually says that there is one law for both the Jew and the resident alien and to show no favoritism...

The Torah (Numbers 15:16) insists that: "One law and one ordinance shall be both for you and for the stranger who sojourns with you."

It was probably said half tongue in cheek anyway. And besides, worst case scenario, what if she had actually pulled the event off? Would it be kind of racist? Perhaps, but almost nobody would object to say, a luau themed wedding (which borrows off Polynesian culture and puts a white twist on it) or an anime themed wedding which is a take off of Japanese culture (one of my white friends had a wedding that was anime themed, with mostly white guests, although I didn't attend I saw the pictures). So, again let's go back to the slave themed wedding. What would have happened? Would the staff be abused with whips and chains and denied payment for their work? No, they would have been hired actors who would have been making money creating a "theme" wedding. They wouldn't have actually been slaves. Perhaps it should be considered in bad taste (it wouldn't be something I would particularly enjoy) but it wouldn't be abusive either.

Who would care if they held a Nazi themed wedding where everyone dressed in SS uniforms and Jews walked around serving drinks and getting gassed....

That's a whole different level of horrible Muman. Nobody was talking about a theme where a certain race or ethnicity gets slaughtered. The descendants of slaves today are much better off than the descendants of those left in Africa. The descendants of Holocaust victims were either never born because their parents were murdered (there should be a lot more Jews in the world today than there is), or have nothing but emotional scars and mourning to show for it.  Slaves were sometimes murdered/abused/raped, but this wasn't a daily reality for every slave either. Nobody in a concentration camp had a good day at work. Slaves were treated as inferior people subject to their so-called betters, which was, of course, wrong. People in concentration camps were treated as if they weren't even people at all and were treated as completely disposable.

It's a completely different depraved level of evil to want a Nazi-themed wedding.

I am not comparing the two.... But in a way it was completely wrong to discuss such an event before people who could take it the wrong way.

I feel bad for the woman because she is being singled out for this. I hope that I never become a famous personality otherwise all the things I said about some people would come out...

I was never a big fan of hers, but I am curious IH--what exactly do you mean by you just don't like her? Who do you like?

I just never really liked her personally. Neither do I like Rachel Ray (I know, I know- I may be just a distasteful person if I don't like people). I just never liked their style. Unlike them, I like other chefs on the Food Network. I like Gordon Ramsay who is not on the Food network, even if he's always yelling at people. And I like the blond lady chef who has her cooking show on the Food Network, I can't recall her name at the moment. I like Iron Chef America and my favorite chef there is Morimoto.

I don't know anything about the Food Network.

I've heard of Rachael Ray. I think I first heard of her from seeing her name on the JTF Forum though.

I'm not a particular fan of Paula Deen although some of her recipes are good. She's always seemed like she was really left wing to me. I don't think she should be fired though. My favorite show when I was watching the Food Network was Iron Chef. I thought it was funny when that flamboyant guy on there took a big bite of the bell pepper.  :::D I also liked that show called Semi Homemade.

Yes they would tell you how terrible you are for not loving Islam and seeing how peaceful it is, and they wouldn't even care that you really aren't a racist at all (at least from what I can tell) or that you have black Jewish friends. Just the fact that you don't celebrate everything evil and depraved in this would would be enough to label you as a so-called racist.

No I have not. She looked like a fool wearing the kefiyah.
