Conservatives Outraged After Phony GOP Leader Mitch McConnell Votes “No” to Defund Planned Parenthood
On Monday the US Senate voted on a bill introduced by Sen. Joni Ernst to defund Planned Parenthood.
Democrats defeated the bill.
The Senate voted 53-46 on the cloture motion failing to get the 60 needed to move the bill forward.
Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell led the effort to keep Planned Parenthood funding by blocking an amendment to the Highway Bill by Mike Lee to defund the abortion harvesting group.
The move by McConnell made it necessary for conservatives to get 60 votes today for their bill.
They could only muster 53 votes.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell voted “no” on the legislation.
For what it’s worth, if the Senate Majority Leader votes against cloture, he is allowed to bring the bill back to the floor, while voting FOR a failed cloture prevents the reintroduction.
Republicans will NEVER get 60 votes to defund Planned Parenthood with only a 54-46 majority.
McConnell knows this.
And, the fact that cloture failed is inexcusable.
