CNN: Hillary’s Negatives are “Five-Alarm Fire”
“You do not get elected president with a number like that.”
Even the left-wing media seem to be losing their confidence in Hillary Clinton. With recent polls revealing substantial drops in Clinton’s numbers in such essential areas as honesty and trustworthiness, the media are sounding the alarm; CNN chief national correspondent John King declared on New Day that the results are “the equivalent of a five-alarm fire” which her team needs to put out immediately before her campaign goes up in flames.
A new Pew survey found that Clinton’s approval rating stands at only 42%. What may be worse is that her disapproval rating also stands at 42%. And an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll found that only 25% of the electorate as a whole views her as “honest and straightforward.”
In a discussion Tuesday on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, John Heilemann, managing editor of Bloomberg Politics, declared, “That is a crushingly bad number. That is the kind of number you do not get elected president with a number like that,” while co-host Joe Scarborough added, “Those are Nixonian numbers.”
According to the Daily Caller, they are far from alone in these assessments.
“Clearly, we’re seeing a candidate who right now isn’t showing us transparency, accountability, or a high level of ethical standards,” said National Journal editor Ron Fournier. “Those are things we should be factoring in as well. Especially reporters… the polls go her way, that doesn’t necessarily mean we should stop reporting on it.”
The Caller also cites the AP’s Julian Pace who notes that despite Clinton’s faltering poll numbers, the Democratic establishment is determined to stand by Hillary through election day: “Even though perhaps half of voters don’t think she is some combination of honest, trustworthy, straightforward, she is still far and away the Democratic choice in this primary season. The party is all in, regardless of honesty and trustworthiness. It’s kind of a sad situation actually.”
