The blood of that American citizen is on our president’s hands.
Did he use military force to rescue him? No.
Did he even threaten military force to rescue him? No.
Did he threaten economic sanctions on the nation protecting the terrorist leadership of the government that held him hostage? No.
Did he threaten economic sanctions against Iran, the nation whom Hamas answers to and who helped finance October 7th? No. In fact, he is not only responsible for getting them back access to billions before October 7th, but to even more billions of dollars after it.
He did what he could to get aid to Gaza while doing absolutely nothing, literally nothing, to prevent that aid from being stolen by Hamas instead of ending up in the hands of the people of Gaza. He didn’t even condemn the aid not ending up in their hands and stolen by Hamas; he blamed Israel for the lack of aid. He even had a pier built to get Gazans their aid – which didn’t keep the aid out of Hamas’ hands nor did they even last. They were a waste of time and money.
11 months of absolutely no direct American action on behalf of an American citizen held hostage by an internationally-recognized terrorist group, whom he insisted must be a part of any future Palestinian government. Any actual leader with a shred of integrity would say that after 10/7, Hamas could not have a role to play in any future Palestinian government, that it must be disbanded, and any and all Hamas leaders barred from positions of leadership in the future.
Hersh’s execution is not a tragedy. It is a direct consequence of the ineptitude and cowardice and moral decrepitude of an American administration that does not stand with the American people. And had the actions of Biden been those of Trump, those of you who doubt me would have no trouble seeing this evil nonsense for what it is.
