I was surprised when I found out that it is not Israel's official anthem, because it was written by a man who was often drunk....

No, they tried to make it officially the national anthem but the Arabs opposed it and it was voted down by the leftists.

No, they tried to make it officially the national anthem but the Arabs opposed it and it was voted down by the leftists.
I heard it was the religious who didnt want it, at least in the 40's and 50's, the guy who wrote it was a drunk supposedly so the religious didnt want it as the national anthem
