Depends you want full scan or part scan, or just to scan one file?

Generally once set a full scan per week with automatic up dates is the go.

Careful Norton and Vista are not 100% partners, and if you add on Java scripts to IE7 you can lose that function.

Norton sees alot of Vista addons as virus.

no quick scan is just a surface single layer scan, go into the control and hit full scan ( in general three layer scan), depending on your computer this will take around 45 minutes to an hour, it does slow the computer.

but you can still used it.

Generally in the control panel you can set a full scan for say 3 am Monday mornings and the computer will complete the function by the time you get home.

What are you using XP or Vista?

Ok thats fine, XP and XP Pro serces 1 and 2 don't have issues with Norton.

It you have newly installed it you must run the update and down load from Norton site, then it should do a full scan its self.

I advise not to buy the plastic laptops, Macbook, but only the MacbookPro (titanium model)
I never had a virus. Even don't know what it looks like when you have a virus.
Turkey must get out of NATO. NATO must get out of Kosovo-Serbia. Croats must get out of Crajina. All muslims must get out of Christian and Jewish land. Turks must get out of Cyprus. Turks must get out of "Istanbul". "Palestinians" must get out of Israel. Israel must become independent from USA.

Wouldn't mind a nice Norton 750 Commando if it runs well.

the plastic is not strong enough, it cracks, and some pieces break off, leaving extra ventilation wholes in your computer.
The old G5 was excellent, I guess the Mac Pro too. (up to 4TB storage, 8x3,2ghz, up to 16GB ram, up to 1,5 GB ram on the video card :D)

The old Powerbook G4 is superb, and the new MacBook Pro also.

A MacBookPro with the same ram and processors as a MacBook, runs really faster as well!

I know. The old iBooks neither, they were almost bulletproof.
This new plastic is worthless.

Don't expect real quality from the 1100$ machine.

Anyone know how the virus scan works

Uninstall it and install a free one like AVG.  AVG is fine.

Or else Norton will nag you to pay eventually, regularly.

Only download the Free AVG (else it will nag you)

Excuse my style.. this is how I talk about computers, to people who can`t use computers. That`s 90% of people

If you bought norton, it merely means that it is your fault for going out and buying a rubbish form of something that is free.

Because you - like most humanoids, didn`t think to search for free anti virus on google. (infact, most people if they did that would not think to read reviews, and would end up installing a virus or some other malware)

But you are best off not using Norton, and installing AVG.

Norton hogs alot of memory. People in the know would pay not to use it

If you bought some junk, and something better is available for free, then you don`t keep using the junk.

Nevertheless, if you insist on using Norton, you can.

But you have not written what problem you are having with it.

A problem is that since I and others here do not have Norton, we cannot see what you can see on your screen.

If I was an end user and had just bought Norton, I would expect Norton to provide support, and I am sure they do.  They probably have a telephone number you can call.  They would be most experienced in getting their program running. And in the faults it has and how to get around them And they would know exactly what you are seeing on your screen.

Have you tried their technical support?

If not, I suggest trying them, and let us know how it goes.

I don`t understand the intent of you writing that.  What you are trying to communicate.

I downloaded free AVG too, many times. I have downloaded many things in my lifetime.
