I really like the 2008 Mazda 3 speed, but check this mazda web site out, I don't think you can get this little hot rod in an automatic. ( Am I right? ).  The car specs say it comes standard as a manual transmission.   I can drive a stick, drove one for years, but I do a lot of city driving too, and the automatic is much better for me for that reason.  It's really dumb if they made it only in stick shift.

Automatic tranny's are garbage, plus they're more abusive on the engine. I drive a manual in NYC, possibly the worst traffic conditions on earth.. it might be a pain at first, but you get used to it.

I like cars sporty.  I'm starting to really like these compact Japanese sports cars.  They're high performance machines. If you don't beat on these cars too much, I wonder how many miles you can get out of them

Get a 2008 civic si sedan. I don't have one but I like it. Now about the manual trannys, they are so much better than automatics for so many reasons. You are cheating yourself by getting an automatic. I too have been driving a stick in NYC for many years and its no problem at all.

The lease on my current car is up soon and I am also trying to decide what to get. I am certainly looking to save money on both gas and the actual lease payments on the car so I will shop around. I think I might just lease a camry se 4 cylinder with a manual. I dont want a fancy car because it attracts uneeded attention. I am really trying to save money now.

Vito, how is your geo metro doing? It must be great to have a car like that with todays gas prices. Although I do have to say that a four cylinder honda civic manual probably comes close to it and is much safer.

My metro is just fine! Honda is safer, but it doesn't get near the mileage my car gets. The Civic dx hatchback ("bubbleback") gets pretty close though. But if I put a geo metro XFI transmission in my car (very hard to find).. the mileage will skyrocket due to the gear ratio

Vito, I agree with you but you have to understand that the geo metro is absolutely the least safe car in existence. The frame provides no protection in a crash. The honda civic is soo much safer and that is something which is very important. It is even more important than saving some money at the pump. Life is not replaceable.

Well front and rear crash rating is actually not bad at all on the geo.. but if I'm hit from the side at high speed, forget it..
