I used to listen to Rush back during the Clinton years and I really enjoyed his programs. However I think Chaim did a video a while back about how Rush is against alternative energies and wants to keep the USA addicted to oil.

I think Rush's reasoning is this, that mostly the alternative energy ideas are being pushed by liberals and leftists, to be "green".

However I think Chaim also mentioned that Rush might have interest in the oil companies.

In that sense, we can't trust Rush.

He also seems to have some kind of problem with strong women.

However, many of the things he says are good. I'm glad he made Obama upset with him.

Ruby, I think you have a point. But there are lots of technologies of the second generation to create alternative gasoline and diesel.

It is not about climate issues, but about using products that were made from oil.

I think if we would enforce this kind of fuel there would be nothing wrong with it.

Concerning the women issue, I know not enough about the viewpoints of Limbaugh.

I can only say, that I would prefer a nice decent girl instead of a feminist dragon. :suave:

I've been reading a little about what happened to women before feminism. It used to be legal to give a woman a beating. It also used to be legal to murder her if she was caught in bed with another man. So basically a man could beat his wife and she had absolutely no economic independence, so she was completely tied to him. She had no birth control so ended up being pregnant again and again to this man. Then when he finally had his last blowout and decided to kill her, all he had to do was lie and say he caught her in bed with another man and the man ran away before he could kill him too. Then the murderer would be free to do this to another woman, and another woman.

No serious political topics were discussed with most women. Even sensible ideas raised by women were often ignored. Women scientists were discriminated against. Even Madame Curie had to deal with a lot of discrimination and she was brilliant. The author of Silas Marner, who was a woman, had to use the pen name George Eliot to get her book published, otherwise this great work of literature wouldn't have been taken seriously.

Women who agitated for the right to vote were arrested and when they went on hunger strikes they were force fed with a pipe down their throats, which was a gruesome and painful procedure. Sometimes the pipe went into their lungs instead and killed them.

I don't like the current version of feminism which promotes horrible things like man-hating, abortion, and lesbianism. However I think it's a good thing that many feminist reforms came about.

Nice video Mord :) There's one problem though, you were supposed to challenge your social equal to a duel. I doubt Chris Matthews and Zell Miller are equals.

Rubystars,

I would be careful about some of the sources who say it was all like this.  Most women were not treated this way and although the early women's movement was good, now many nazi type feminists have taken charge of what we learn from history.  I don't think most western men had their wives killed.  This sounds right out of the Gloria Steinhem handbook.

SaveTheWest, I'm sure that most people's lives were reasonably all right. I'm not saying it was like this for every woman, or that every woman lived a bad life. What I'm saying is that these things did happen to women, and it was all considered legal and all right. Women were considered to be second or third class citizens.

In the Muslim world most Muslim women are probably ok 80% of the time, but of course the horror stories coming out of the Middle East about honor killings, severe beatings, clitoridectomies, etc. are all still very true.

I think Muslim women in many countries are actually predominantly beaten regularly although I don't know where the statistics are from offhand.  I heard it was something crazy like 65%...and that's today! The female surgeries happen to most women in countries like Mali, Sudan, etc.  It's not the minority.

I'm definitely not going to argue that women not being able to vote or say no to having a tenth child was right.  From everything that I've read, women in the 18th and 19th century couldn't vote but in the parlors of 19th century France for instance, they could voice their opinions along with the men about political issues.  There were stories about the French countryside where women were treated like puppy mills, it's true.  We've gone too far though.  Many parts of traditional family worked very well.  Even though there have been advances in freedom for women, the rate of divorce, out of wedlock births, sexually transmitted disease, and crime have been the consequence on children from non traditional and chaotic household life.  I still think that being a women even in Europe in the dark ages might be slightly better than a Muslim women today.

I think that the problem is that you've got a lot of leftists involved that use legitimate movements to push their own, evil agenda along with it. For example look at how environmentalism has been completely hijacked by socialists and leftists and crazies. It is important to have clean water, air, and biodiversity. However I dont know of any pro-environment organizations that aren't infested with tree-hugging hippies who want to save the trees but abort babies in the womb.

I couldn't agree with you more.  There are some environmental protections that make sense but they lose all direction when they are lead by insane leftist people who think that no protection or progress is good enough.  The progressive movement deserves a lot of blame because they think that everything is a continuous movement that doesn't end.
