Is there a nostalgia for Yugoslavia in Serbia?
« on: February 18, 2009, 02:20:52 PM »
When I lived in Belarus, many people (especially older generation) were not happy that USSR disintegrated. They were saying "we lived in a great state before, and what we have now?" Besides, the economy was in a deep crisis and it was much harder for ordinary people to earn a living than in USSR. The same mood prevailed in Russia and Eastern Ukraine.

Do people in Serbia felt the same towards Yugoslavia after it fell apart? I know that Tito wanted "weak Serbia in order to have strong Yugoslavia". But maybe there were positive moments too?

What is your opinion?

Those who grew up in Yugoslavia during the so-called good old days, the answer is yes. To those who did, the answer is yes.
Do I think that the idea of Yugoslavia was a good one? Yes, but to a certain point. If the system was the same one as it is in US, perhaps it could have worked.

Those who wish Yugoslavia to be created again, they do not understand why did it seem to be so good. The answer is that Tito (a Croat) was a very good politician/liar and knew how to play his cards. He was neutral towards both the West and East and because he was in good relations with both sides, he was getting massive international help and finances. However, when he died and the communism fell in Eastern Europe, Yugoslavia was no longer needed and no more international help was coming in. The main contributor to disintegration of Yugoslavia was Germany for more than one reason:
1. loosing 6 weeks to attack Soviet Union in June 1941 (instead of first week of May 1941) which later lost Nazi Germany the war. Serbs overthrew the government in March 1941 when the leaders signed a pact with Germany. Hitler, pissed off at the Serbs for overturning the pact and overthrowing the government, decided to bomb Serbs in April 1941, hence postponing Barbarossa untill June 22, 1941.
2. Access to the Mediteranean through Adriatic (hence, Croatia) has long been their dream.
3. Simple hatred of the Serbs has been going back for at least 150 years.

Idea of a unified Southern Slavic country was a great one, but since all Southern Slavs allowed themselves to be told what to do by outside powers, it fell apart. It is such an oxymoron that the same group of countries that pushed the idea of Yugoslavia in 1921 were the same ones who pushed the disintegration of it starting in 1991. You make your own conclusion.

Some people still miss the fact that they were "free" and they could go across the border of Yugoslavija, because Tito allowed them to do that, They had "better" lives, bigger salaries, had everything they wanted to buy, etc... They couldn't realize what was COOKING for them (Kosovo's and Vojvodina's Autonomy)

I am sorry to say, but eventhough I am believer in better days, I am afraid that the worse is yet to come. Vojvodina (Hungarians), Macedonia & Montenegro (both because of Albanians), Greece (due to large number of Albanians in the north), Croatia (Istra Peninsula and parts of Dalmatia because of Italians) and then of course Bosnia (Herzegovina has a large Croatian population which wish to become part of so-called Croatia), and Republika Srpska will separate and join Serbia.......

This is the reason why large number of countries worldwide are not recognizing Kosovo because same issues are happening in their respective countries.

It is good old days in any country while there are financial resources, but once those resources are gone, oh boy.

Same could happen even in the US, specifically in the southwest US.

Actually, by "positive moment" I meant the fact that all Serbs lived in one country and state borders were not separating them...

Indeed, I could never understand why Republic of Srpska still remains a part of BiH? Its population is 90% Serbian, it's higher than in Serbia proper.

1st it can't,for the same reason kosovo can,and we serbs after ww1 had an option to create a greater serbia(it wouldn't have slovenia, and some northern parts of croatia)so the croatian and slovenian delegations came to king Alexandar to beg him to practicaly be they're king(thus recodniseing they're existance as a people)and ofc he did, they say it was the masonic serbian elite that pressured him in to doing so,tho during his rule he all ways tried to say that the whole country was one nation, one people, witch croats were against day one(convinient no?)...

enjoy my spelling errors.

Yes, George explained well and mentioned some facts I didn't know.

The main contributor to disintegration of Yugoslavia was Germany for more than one reason:
...
3. Simple hatred of the Serbs has been going back for at least 150 years.

What happened 150 years ago?

I thought German hatred toward Serbs started in World War I when Gavrilo Princip killed austrian prince Ferdinand and when Serbs heroically resisted the onslaught of Austro-Hungarian Empire.

To tell the truth, life in ex- socialist Yugoslavia was much, much, much better than now. There wasn't unemployment, hatred between people on national and religious basis, the country was modernized. The rights of workers were 101% respected. It was the most important thing in ex-Yugoslavia.You couldn't have situations like today. For example, today if a woman want to have a job and go to talk to employer,in many cases she would be forced to sign agreement that she won't have a birth for at least 5 years.
That's pure satanism.
Today,people are like slaves,numbers...
In ex-Yugoslavia,life of the "working people"(as it was said) was a sanctity, but today it's profit. And human may be sacrificed for the profit of employer.Unfortunately,it's the truth.

But,the ex Yugoslav society had its goals. That's to separate the brain from the body-to separate religion from the people and to prepare the terrain for today's system.

Yugoslavian Communism(Titoism) was hidden kind of satanism(a "tender one"),but today we have an open satanism destroying our society in every aspect of life.
For example,Serbia has negative birth-rate.Every year Serbia lose a city of 70 000 people, because there are more deaths then births. It means that in 10 years there will be about 700 000 Serbs less then today, and I'm not counting emigrations, which means the number is going to be bigger.

Are you sure? At least 5 years??

This is insane. I don't believe a normal woman will agree to this. And what if she gives birth anyway? Is there a punishment for this?

I hope you are exaggerating.

How can a woman (and her husband) agree to this? If is preferrable for her not to work at all!

And what if she gets fired from that job, she'll find a new one and start counting 5 years again?

In my mind, this is more dangerous threat than separatism.
Is that deviation practiced in other countries?

Sorry for my oriental barbaric medieval views, but that's what I think about it!

I'm telling you the situation in Serbia present for 9 years(2000-2009).
Our law about working rights is for slaves or for animals.
Yes,it's 5 years. That's the instrument how EU support low birth-rate in Serbia. That's what I call "silenced genocide" through economy and law-system for slaves.

But,Serbs are choosing it...So,let them have it.But,I say breaking up of the country and further occupation is going to hit them hard on their stupid brainwashed heads. Then it will be "OMG,we didn't want this,we thought we are going to "enter" the EU and live in piece happily ever after".
(that's current mentality of liberal secular democrats in Serbia;very hard to live next to such stupidity)

How can they be against it when they allowed to be fully dependent from their employers? They can't resist, because they don't have a choice.Man isn't independent so he can support his wife(his family),and he has to work for someone else. But,his earnings aren't enough,so woman is forced to work also.

Those are consequences of being "emancipated" or brainwashed.
When both are dependent they can't risk to lose their jobs because it's the fight for pure survival.

Then, you get the answer how is it possible that majority of Serbs accept occupation of Vojvodina. They can't resist. If their political idols say that "the people's interest is to have independent province beacuse they are going to be richer",they are going to say "yes,it's in our interest, our political emancipated, progressive, modern, smart leaders knows what's good for us" and the job is done.
