How do they deal with people at work who are very difficult, incompetent and in positions of authority?  All advice is very much wanted and appreciated

Just tell them to get back in the kitchen     :::D :::D :::D :::D :::D

I would talk to other people that work there, in your postion, that you trust, (or think you can trust to some degree) and find out what you can  do.  They may have good information for you.

They told me to apologize even though she was wrong.  They have seen junior residents not supported when these things have happened before

I wouldn't apologize.
Is there a chief resident on call in the hospital overnight?

Yes, the only thing is that all year in the ten or so modules, I had one problem with another foreign national that had no idea how to talk to people and they took his side.  Since I am LEAVING and am a prelim only, I want to pass my next three months here in peace if possible.  Since that bad experience, I had to work 5 times harder everytime I had to work with a Arab in order to prove I wasn't all of the bad things that sicko tried to say I was.  I better hit the sack  Thanks.. i wll read you answer when I wake up

I'm sorry you are going through this.  I can relate to your dilemma.
The only answer is to go over her head, if she tries to force you to do something that you are really not comfortable with.
I'll be praying for you.  May G-d help you to protect the patients from her.  May he give you strength to tolerate this rotten beast.

Amen!

Thank you so much to every JTFer who took the time to respond and gave their honest opinion based on their own life experiences.  I appreciated this more than you know--I mean it.

I did talk to the Chief Resident and she was very supportive.

It's wonderful that the Chief resident is putting the safety of the patients above the egos of people working there.
