Any non-medicated cures for Insomnia?
« on: August 14, 2007, 12:56:20 PM »
I hate taking pills, just curious to know if there's something natural out there that might work, thanks!

Make sure you get lots of exercise during the day.  And try to sleep the same time every night.

If you can stop thinking, you can fall assleep.  The problem is that you think too much.

Shut off your mind and stay in the here and now.

excercise and confidence in G-d. stop worrying about things.
The Academy of Elijah taught, whoever studies the laws (of the Torah) every day, (he) is guaranteed to have a share in the World to Come.

‏119:139 צִמְּתַתְנִי קִנְאָתִי כִּישָׁכְחוּ דְבָרֶיךָ צָרָי
My zeal incenses me, for my adversaries have forgotten Your words.
‏119:141 צָעִיר אָנֹכִי וְנִבְזֶה פִּקֻּדֶיךָ, לֹא שָׁכָחְתִּי.
I am young and despised; I have not forgotten Your precepts.

" A fool does not realize, and an unwise person does not understand this (i.e. the following:) When the wicked bloom like grass, and the evildoers blossom (i.e. when they seem extremly successful), it is to destroy them forever (i.e. they are rewarded for their few good deeds in this World, and they will have no portion in the World to Come!)

Oh believe me I pray to G-d for sleep. It's just not enough. I've been awake since Monday morning, so that's about 34 hours or so, and right now I'm wide awake. It's insane.

Then forget the swedish girl and go find anything in a skirt. You'll sleep then! ;)

Hah, yep.

Melatonin, my cousin recommended it. It's an over the counter vitamin. He's three times my size and said one pill knocked him out. So that means I'm taking two. :D

There was a bloke the other day talking to the pharmacist about viagra. He asked if he'd be able to get it over the counter. The pharmacist said he might if he took 3 and stood on yippy toes.

Nope, not at all. Not much sugar either. I think too much, or "mind race" rather, about a girl.. it's depressing, don't want to get into it. But I will take two melatonins and see if this stuff works. It's too early to go to sleep, but my eyes are burning from being open for 40 hours.

I'm the biggest insomniac - I've been trying to figure out that Stop Thinking thing for years - it just doesn't work for me.  Any advice Scriabin?
12.5 to 25 mg of benadryl should do the trick - very mild - over the counter.  I buy the children's chewable.  More then that and you may feel like you have a hang over in the am.
Just in case the melatonin doesn't work.
PS - Newman seems to have given you the best advice - move on to greener pastures  ;)

breathing exercises, tea and if you can`t sleep then get up from your bed!!! move, go to the window, read something (book, not internet), stay with lights on, then, when you decide to go in bed, use your bed JUST FOR SLEEP, not for eating, not for reading, not for laptop and not for JTF forum!!! use your bed just for sleep!!!! turn off the lights and close your eyes and try to sleep.... :) Good luck!

I must admit I take Ambien on occasion, as for a natural cure, I think try regulating your sleeping patterns to the same time every night.  Also stay up and don't try to sleep until you are absolutely exhausted until you can regulate your habits.

WOOOOOHHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Melatonin = 10 hours of sleep!!! I don't remember the last time I slept for 10 hours!!

Yasmine:
I can't be active because I still have a cast on, I broke my leg last month so I've been very inactive.. that might be part of the reason why I'm so discouraged. I am a very active person.. gymnastics, tae kwon do, street hockey, ice skating, kayaking, biking. So going from that, to nothing.. takes a toll on me psychologically. But the melatonin works like a dream!  ;D I recommend it to anybody with trouble sleeping.. it's all natural. I really don't want to use ambients, so this is the next best thing!
