Hillary Clinton’s private email server, which is now known to have sent classified information, has been handed over to the Justice Department at long last. But after all of the hedging and obfuscation, and delays, what did investigators receive? A blank server, wiped clean of all data from her time as Secretary of State.

The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that the server she used while Secretary of State was given to the FBI around 4 pm:

Before it was taken to the data center in New Jersey, the server had been in the basement of the Clintons’ private home in Chappaqua, N.Y., during the time she was Secretary of State, according to people familiar with the Clintons’ e-mail network.

Copies of some emails that were sent from the server were contained on a thumb drive also obtained by the FBI. They show that Hillary Clinton did in fact send information that was classified as Top Secret at the time, but were not marked or handled as such by Clinton. Obtaining the server is one way to make sure there are no additional compromises of any data that might have remained behind.

Still, the question of whether the server was delivered voluntarily or whether the transfer was forced by the FBI remains, as the Washington Examiner noted Thursday afternoon.
