Donald Trump hasn’t released his own tax records but his campaign expects people being vetted for the vice presidency to fork them over.
This is a fairly standard part of the running mate vetting process. But Trump has resisted calls from both parties to release his own returns publicly. He has said he can’t do so because he is under audit, but the IRS has said he can send out audited returns.
“Trump’s not running for Vice President,” NBC News was told NBC News when asked about the apparent contradiction.
The business mogul released his personal financial disclosure report on Tuesday evening, detailing his $10 billion net worth and $557 million income during 2015. One expert estimated that the presumptive GOP nominee exaggerated these numbers and is only worth $4.5 billion, but the only way to conclusively know Trump’s worth would be to examine his tax returns.
Hillary Clinton released her person financial disclosure on Wednesday along with eight years of tax returns.
