“I struggle with the fact that I’m an Arab. I was never really proud to be an Arab . When I grew up in Lebanon, I looked up to France as my country more than I looked up to Lebanon. When I left in 1984 to immigrate to Canada I thought that I would likely never go back to Lebanon, and I haven’t. Since I started in the early 1990’s learning the history of Israel, my unease about being Arab has kept growing because I learned all the hateful things that Arabs did to Jews. A few years ago, I visited Israel but I didn’t set foot in Lebanon. I don’t regret it either . I should have been born south of Lebanon. I would still be there and I would be proud of my country”
