Trump: I Don’t Need Conservatives to Support Me

donald_trumpRepublican primary voters, what have you done?

Ah, the leftist orange windbag is showing his true colors:

I have to stay true to my principles also. And I’m a conservative, but don’t forget, this is called the ‘Republican Party,’ not the ‘conservative party.’

If he were a conservative, there would be no need for Trump to say that it’s the Republican Party, not the Conservative Party. Nor would he say that conservatives wouldn’t unite behind him if he stayed true to his “principles,” whatever those may be.

In other words, in one and the same sentence Trump calls himself a conservative, after which he makes clear he is not.

But wait, it gets even worse. Trump actually admits that his principles are more in line with those of socialist Bernie Sanders than with those of, say, Ted Cruz:

“Does the party have to be together, does it have to be unified?” he said during an interview on ABC’s “This Week” that will air Sunday. “I’m very different from anybody who’s perhaps ever run for office. I actually don’t think so.”“I think it would be better if it were unified, I think there would be something good about it, but I don’t actually think it has to be unified,” he said.

The presumptive GOP nominee said that he can win without the backing of the full party by drawing Democratic voters, specifically supporters of Bernie Sanders.

In other words, he’s counting on the socialist rather than on the conservative vote. Which explains, of course, why he suddenly says he favors increasing the minimum wage and amending the Republican platform with regards to abortion.

What’s most striking about all this is that we haven’t heard Trump speak about his principles until now. Only now that he has the Republican nomination locked up does he tell people he has principles and that those principles are more in line with those of Bernie Sanders than those of Ted Cruz.
