Ted Cruz: Obama Admin Creates Environment for Attacks on Cops

Texas Senator and Republican Presidential hopeful Ted Cruz says the Obama administration must bear some of the responsibility for the attack on police that saw a sheriffs’ deputy shot and killed in cold blood on Friday night.

“Cops across this country are feeling the assault,” Cruz told reporters after a town hall meeting in Milford, N.H. “They’re feeling the assault from the president, from the top on down, as we see — whether it’s in Ferguson or Baltimore, the response from senior officials, the president or the attorney general, is to vilify law enforcement. That’s wrong. It’s fundamentally wrong. It’s endangering all of our safety and security.”

Texas deputy Darren Goforth was gassing up his patrol car when he was shot without provocation. After he fell to the ground he was shot several more times, a total of 15 bullets. Suspect Shannon J. Miles is now in custody.

Cruz said police have been getting a raw deal and a lack of support from the highest levels of the administration.

“These are brave heroes who risk their lives keeping us safe. And I do think we’re seeing the manifestation of the rhetoric and vilification of law enforcement, of police, that is coming from the president of the United States and it’s coming from senior officials,” he said.

Cruz recalled a defeated nomination for a senior position at the Justice Department for a lawyer “who represented a cop killer” pro bono.

“I’m proud to stand with law enforcement,” he said. “… We need a president who doesn’t attack and vilify them, and who doesn’t seek to tear us apart along racial lines, to inflame racial divisions.”

Cruz will be part of a rally next week in DC to denounce the deal with Iran. Also taking part will be fellow GOP hopeful and poll leader Donald Trump and conservative radio host Glenn Beck.
