Trump says he “hopes America has seen the end of Clinton probes”; Wants Hillary off scot-free without any consequences
President Trump said he hopes the days of investigations into his former rival Hillary Clinton are behind them.
ABC’s David Muir asked Trump in an interview whether Americans are done hearing news about probes into the former Democratic nominee.
“I just don’t know, I mean I hope so. From my standpoint we want to move on to the future, so I hope so. I don’t know what the status of that is, I know it is a lot of very serious stuff, but I certainly hope so,” Trump said in the Oval Office.
Trump hammered Clinton on the campaign trail over the investigation into her use of a private email server while secretary of State, and said during a debate that she would be in jail if he were president. Chants of “lock her up” were frequently heard at his campaign rallies. He also previously said he would appoint a special prosecutor to look into the issue.
But he quickly backed off after his victory, saying he was focusing on the future. Clinton and former President Bill Clinton attended Trump’s inauguration, and he asked her to stand up at his inaugural luncheon, prompting a standing ovation.
