University Diversity Officer: It is impossible for a black woman to be racist or sexist to white men
The Daily Caller reports that a U.K. university diversity officer who faced a backlash after banning white people from an event defends herself with the claim that it is literally impossible for a minority woman to be racist.
Bahar Mustafa, a student who also serves as a welfare and diversity officer at Goldsmiths University, drew public condemnation several weeks ago when she planned an event on “diversifying” the school’s curriculum — except that her version of diversity means no straight white men:
If you’ve been invited and you’re a man and/or white PLEASE DON’T COME just cos I invited a bunch of people and hope you will be responsible enough to respect this is a BME [Black and Minority Ethnic] Women and non-binary event only.
She later posted a photo of herself wiping away fake tears near a sign reading “NO White Cis Men Please.”
Her response to the subsequent condemnation of her narrowly-defined diversity was to blame the media for engaging in a “witch hunt and shameful character assassination” and to read aloud a statement to a gathering of Goldsmiths students. It read, in part:
There have been charges laid against me that I am racist and sexist towards white men. I, an ethnic minority woman, cannot be racist or sexist towards white men, because racism and sexism describe structures of privilege based on race and gender, and therefore women of color and minority genders cannot be racist or sexist, since we do not stand to benefit from such a system.
Well, that’s a convenient redefinition.
“Reverse racism and sexism are not real,” she added. She’s correct about that, but not for the reason she would argue. “Reverse” racism and sexism don’t exist not because non-white females can’t be guilty of racism and sexism – Mustafa herself proves that they can – but because the term implies that racism and sexism are primarily white male attributes, and anyone else guilty of it is just engaging in white male behavior in “reverse.”
In fact, anyone can be racist and sexist, particularly the race- and gender-obsessed left; those attitudes are not dependent on imaginary white male “structures of privilege” that Mustafa and her fellow (is that sexist?) progressives insist on blaming.
She really should learn to read a dictionary; put that college “education” to use. Her very statement is racist.
