During the Debate, Trump Bragged About Settling a Discrimination Lawsuit

You cannot make this up. Who brags about settling a discrimination lawsuit? Donald Trump, that’s who.

During the debate last night, the issue of birtherism came up. Trump, in an attempt to deflect attention away from the charge, pointed the finger at Hillary Clinton.

She said, “Donald started his career back in 1973 being sued by the Justice Department for racial discrimination because he would not rent apartments in one of his developments to African-Americans.”

It’s a tough charge. Here is Trump’s response:

Seriously? That’s the best he can do? Admit that she’s right and brag about settling the case? Trump thinks “no admission of guilt” is a win.

Here are a few things to consider. First of all, the suit in question was not filed against “many, many other companies.” There were other companies on the Justice Department’s radar, but the suit was filed against Trump, his father Fred Trump and Trump management. Second, 95% of all pending civil lawsuits, end in a pre-trial settlement. Third, if you ask almost any attorney, they’ll tell you settlements are accepted all the time with the defendant agreeing to take some kind of voluntary action without admitting any guilt.

That is exactly what Trump did. In the settlement agreement, Trump Management had to agree to train employees to operate properly under The Fair Housing Act. They had to start a two year marketing campaign to let the community know they were adhering to fair housing practices that included providing a list of vacancies each week to the Urban League.

Trump is delusional enough to think not having to admit guilt means he “won.” But as the settlement shows, he lost. And he bragged about it.
