A few things:
1: I live in California and we have the worst gun-control laws in the nation. Just a
magazine holding over ten rounds is legally defined as an "assault weapon".
2: I understand Israeli gun-control laws, unless you are in active service, are rather similar.
3: I don't know what Israeli self-defense laws are, and although I would encourage every Jew to defend himself, would not be surprised if the courts will file murder charges against Jews defending their lives from Arab murderers. In fact, it has happened already, many times.
4: Average Israelis in the cities (i.e. Israel excluding East Jerusalem and the territories/hilltops)very much
do agree with both these insane gun-control laws and the systematic bias in favor of Arabs in general. They think that (a) gun control will keep them safe and (b) that showing legal deference to Arabs will win them and the Arab Nazi nations they come from over eventually. That's the self-hating Jewish mentality for you--make yourself a doormat enough, and people will love you.
One of the thing Rabbi Kahane (zt"l) did that Chaim and JTF don't do enough is morally challenge the Jewish nation. Like the Biblical prophets, the sainted Rav pierced the consciences of complacent, secular Jews (as in his book
Uncomfortable Questions For Comfortable Jews). The Biblical prophets and sages of the Tanach always called the Israelite nation to repentance for their moral turpitude, and I feel JTF needs to start doing the same.
