After much thought, I worry that if I had a gun in my house, that Gd forbid my child woudl find it and think it's a toy and Gd forbid kill someone with it.
Take the kid out shooting.
Children that know about and respect guns don't shoot themselves or others accidentally.
On the contrary, children who are sheltered by gun-fearing parents are the ones who have 'accidents'.
I agree with Scriabin because I grew up with guns in my house and I knew not to touch them
that's because you are a good boy...
Scenario here, a kid who has never used a gun or been taught discipline about it is told "no stay away from guns", most kids are instinctive about being 'rebellious', it's natural to rebel against law and what your told. The child is at a friends house and finds the fathers gun and playing around with it like they see in the movies, wanting to play cops and robbers and someone is shot.
This has to do with lack of education.
I shot my first gun when I was about 10 years old, my dad had me in the basement with a shotgun, he had it setup for shooting. I remember the first time I shot it, I felt the recoil and saw what it did to the target, I knew guns weren't a joke and knew not to touch them after seeing what it could do to a person.
Kids who are taught to respect and use things the way they are meant to be usually grow up a much better person, look at most city kids to country kids, most city (suburbanite) kids are spoiled little brats who go out and do whatever they want, no respect for anything. It's all about getting drunks, getting laid, and taking no responsibility for their actions.
A lot of these southern country boys grew up in the stick working hard and earning what they have. I'd rather be living next to southern boys than some northern nassal accent city slicker who thinks they know everything about life when in reality, they are just arrogant.
No offense to northerners, just bad experiences.
People don't respect the south though and we're treated like the armpit of America.
Gun owners aren't respected either, people act like we're a bunch of criminals or registered sex offenders and we must be up to no good because we own firearms. I really don't understand that concept at all.
Listen..i think that certain citizens are allowed to have guns..You displayed a picture of a gun that seems unusual for self-defense...
And I'm not one who had ever thought that if one owned a gun they were a registered sex offender or anything of that sort.
Personally, I never grew up in a tough neighborhood like the majority on this forum. I have no pre-judgement on those who wish to defend themselves and do what they need to do. I just tell myself, what size does the gun need to be if it is for self-defense? HOw many guns does one need? ANd then when I hear one needs 20 weapons...I think, "Oh boy....I guess you live in the jungles of Nicaragua."
According to the constitution, the people have the right to have guns, what are people? Well a person would be someone with rights. Convicted felons and sex offenders don't have rights.
I never stated that gun owners are sex offenders, moreso that we are compared to them in a fashion that we are stereotyped as being shady or not upstanding citizens, etc.
Why does it matter what the size of the gun is or how many I have? Do I ask women how many pairs of shoes they have or how many action figures someone collects. I have different guns for different jobs, pistol for CCW, shotgun for home defense, rifle for shtf, and I collect world war II rifles for historical purposes.
Again, you may not realize it, but this is common to what liberal anti-gunners say, and you have been conditioned by that regardless if you think otherwise, however I won't fault you for it, we're all here to promote gun ownership and education.
Ok so we agree, bad people shouldn't have guns.
You need one gun for CCW(?), one for home defense, one for (shtf? is that hunting?), a bunch for collection museum purposes...that's fine. I have no problem with gun ownership.
THen you have machine guns and guns used with the intention to kill and target and assasinate people..i'm all for being law abiding citizens...that means you can have guns, but to use them for evil purposes is a no go...
shtf = sh*t hits the fan, I don't hunt. usually a reference to the economy crashing or the UN disarming people, hurricane katrina, etc. By the way, rifles aren't just used for hunting, they are also used for target shooting, sporting purposes, and skeet/trap (usually shotguns).
Btw, I've said it before, they are not machine guns. These are semi-automatic (1 shot per pull of the trigger) legal variants for civilian ownership. You cannot judge a gun based on it's cosmetics, it is not the same thing, they are incapable of firing fully automatic. A machine gun is a full automatic firearm. The only recent case of a machine gun being used in a crime was the north hollywood shootout in 97, of course that was heavy modification to the firearm (drilling a 3rd hole in the AK47 receiver and dropping in a full auto sear).
You are assuming I have guns for the intention of assassinating or killing people, again, that's not my intention and I don't appreciate someone accusing me of that being my intention.
What makes my rifle so different than a handgun? You tell me, they both go bang, and we're both capable of killing a person with either tool.
Another thing, convicted felons should be locked up and sex offenders should be as well, theres no reason they should be on our streets.
Furthermore, we need to redefine what a felony is, you can become a felon for oral sex in alabama or possession of a sex toy (I kid you not), you can also become a felon for prank calls and other silly little things, do I have a problem with martha stewart owning a gun? Absolutely not, what she did was stupid but she shouldn't be a felon.
Dan you need to watch the following video on the confusion of "machine guns"
It was made by a cop
