My first reaction to this was being glad that it wasn't another Jewish traitor. But she's still a judge who looks to "feelings" AKA left-wing ideology to make decisions, not the law.

It was going to be a liberal no matter what.  Since she is almost 55 and has type I diabetes, we can be pretty sure that she will not be on the court for 30 or 40 years like a younger more healthy candidate could. Health complications could make her retire in as little as 10-20 years.

Your post has made me feel slightly better about this nomination however I think you may be giving me false hope. Her type are like roaches they can survive anything but then again hypertension and diabetes seems to do them in at a young age. I don't like wishing illness on people but if she croaks in 5 to 10 we can always pray that a more Conservative president may be in place to appoint her successor.

Barack Hussein Obama likely selected Sonia Sotomayor for two reasons.    One,   she reflects similar ultra Liberal views that Obama does.    Two,   because Sotomayor is an ultra Liberal Hispanic,    Obama is banking on the Republicans being politically correct instead of truly challenging the Sotomayor selection.     The Conservatives of the Republican Party  must finally take a firm stance,   regardless of how they are portrayed by the media,    Democrat Party itself,   and the " Moderates"  in the Republican Party.      The future of the country could be riding on this.

This woman should be selling tostadas on the street corner of 125th st in Spanish Harlem but in a sick country, she will have a seat on the Supreme Court.  I have 0 hope that there will be more than a few conservatives opposing her nomination.  Obama said she has more experience than all the Supreme Court Justices put together had before they sat on the court.  The difference is though, that those justices didn't get accepted into every law program and university because they were not the only Puerto Rican from the projects to be able to put the big cube into the little cube during the IQ test.  Just hearing her speak is pretty unimpressive and although it's not always the case, this lady looks slightly brain dead.  

I'll let her prove me wrong but just because someone passed the bar exam, does not make them brilliant.  She's brilliant compared to the beasts she grew up with and if she was white, would be a lawyer representing DUI cases.

Latin?  The topic of this mini-thread was that he was not Spanish. He clearly was not Spanish if his ancestors were Jews from Portugal.  Also a Latino or Latina (Hispanic Person) in the USA is considered a person from a central American or south American country where Spanish is spoken.  All the Brazilians running around Boston and speaking Portuguese are not considered to be Latinos or Hispanics by most.

so i guess all french and italians are of spanish extraction as well since they speak romance languages, and that i'm french since i have some distant ancestors that did live in france about 300 years ago. lol.  I wonder if you even read what you post sometimes.

The people of the U.S. today are not about doing the best thing for the country or the right thing but instead about firsts and "making history".  The first black president, the first black attorney general, the first "hispanic" justice...etc.  There are apparently only two qualifications needed to hold a position of high power today; you must have an ultra left wing ideology and you must NOT be a white male.

As for whether she is the first hispanic justice or not, once again, in my opinion, this is a ridiculous made up term that basically serves no real purpose but to categorize a vast number of people for the purpose of doling out government entitlements.  Hispanic is not a race and what possible cultural similarities are there between a Peruvian, a Dominican, a Honduran and a Spaniard?  And please don't say a common language of Spanish.  That argument would mean that a Haitian and a Frenchman should fall under the same category as well.
