That story really hits the nail on the head in regards to the state of our education system.  
It is very frustrating.  They learn more about people in black history  :o
then American History in general.
What my daughter learned about Christopher Columbus is that he was bad to the poor Indians.  Period!  With no historical perspective.
Yet - they spend many days discussing the great and honorable MLK - every year.

That is why we are enjoying all the research we have done for this thread.  
I think tonight we will look up Betsy Ross together - Thank You for the suggestion.

We learned alot about our beautiful flag in researching Betsy Ross last night.
You are right HiWarp - Children are not being taught about her - and I assumed they were.  
My family attends every Veteran/patriotic event held in our community.  Often my child is the only child in attendance.  We discuss our freedoms - how they are maintained - symbols of it etc.  all the time...and yet my daughter did not know who Betsy Ross was.
I know there is some question to the validity of her story...but I think teaching about her is an excellent way to teach about that one great symbol - our beautiful American Flag -- and that period in our history.
We also learned how to cut a 5 pointed star in one snip.

Thanks for the links bullcat.  Reading them takes me back to my days in grade school.  It's a shame that "educators" today, and I use the term very loosely, consider Afro-American history to be more relevant than this and other aspects of American history.

President Clinton was in office when I was born. :::D

Hi bullcat jr. I have been trying to find the answer to the question you left me but with all the books I have here on the presidents I must say I could not find a thing on it. You have me stumped. I will take a guess and say it was T.R only because he and his family was known to have several white house pets.

I like being able to look things up online with BullCat Jr..

Hi bullcat jr I been busy at work the past few days and haven't had time to research your question about Primo Levi when I got home. Its contract negotiation time and its my job to see that my people get a fair shake from the company. Its a tough job because all the companies today want cheap labor and the poor American workers are being taken to the cleaners :'(. You need to study hard in school and become a labor lawyer so one day you can help people get a fair days pay for a good days work :) .
I have been looking up your Primo Levi and I have to say he is a interesting guy ;). He had two great things going for him he was Italian and he was Jewish O0. It seems like many Jews he was a smart guy. He was a chemist and in later life he also became a writer. His writings were about his time as a consentration camp survivor. His writings seem to consist about his time in the Auschwitz consentration camp. Writings like this are important because it documents the great suffering that Jews were subjected to during this evil time. Your question has spurred my interest to find one of his books and do some further research about this man. I would also like to add his book to my collection.

Primo Levi was an interesting guy.
I read about him with my Mom.
He was Italian like I am ;)
and your right he was Jewish.  :)
He was a chemist and I like science.

My Mom talked to me about the bad things that happened to him and other Jewish people like him.   :'(  It made me feel sad.

Do you know Rachael Ray?  She cooks on TV.  She reminds me of The Frog from Courageous Cat.  The way she looks and talks.

So I was trying to show BullCat Jr. the cartoon.  That is how we came across Edward G Robinson's Bio.
