Just in case anyone needed more evidence that today’s mainstream media works to push progressive propaganda as well as censor and attack conservatives, then here it is.

Most journalists rely on the AP (Associated Press) Stylebook for universal guidelines when writing. In the past, the Stylebook’s focus has been related to grammar, specifically punctuation, capitalization, etc. It also used to recommend word prefernce choices that were neutral. However, as we have witnessed leftist activism increase in the courts, in those who run and control social media, and even in local and national news programming, we have seen a rise in that leftist activism by the AP as well.

The AP Stylebook long ago banned the use of “illegal” and “alien” to refer to people entering the country illegally, no doubt to add to the confusion and conflate illegal vs. legal immigration. The AP is now under fire for blatant favoritism and bias towards language preferred by liberals while simultaneously censoring and attacking conservatives.

Here are a few of the key changes in the universal guidelines, i.e. push for liberal language, by the AP.

Pro-life is no longer allowed according to AP standards. Writers must say “anti-abortion.” So, even if a pro-life writer submits a piece for publication to a news outlet that follows AP guidelines, their words would be changed from pro-life, which is a stand for the life of the innocent unborn in the womb, to “anti-abortion,” which attacks those not in favor of killing babies in the womb.

Use anti-abortion instead of pro-life and abortion rights instead of pro-abortion or pro-choice. Avoid abortionist, which connotes a person who performs clandestine abortions.

The AP even provides cover for Islamic terrorists by eliminating any references to Islamic or terrorists.

Words related to terrorism are sanitized in the AP Stylebook. Militant, lone wolves or attackers are to be used instead of terrorist or Islamist.

They also disallow the use of the words “migrant” and “refugee” in favor of “people struggling to enter Europe.” Could it be that they do not want the words “migrant” and “refugee” used because we have witnessed waves of crime, assault, sexual assault, and terrorism done by Muslim migrants and refugees in Europe?

Writers adhering to the AP Stylebook also cannot use the terms “illegal immigrant” or “undocumented.” There is no clear alternative, however warped to fit liberal-speak, by the AP for those words. In addition, writing “amnesty” is forbidden. Instead, writers are expected to use words like “parole, pardon, and probation.”

Of course, the AP also supports the progressive attack on guns, gun rights, and the Second Amendment by pushing confusing language.

The stylebook also instructs writers to use confusing language about guns in order to create a negative impression about them. Semi-automatic rifles that have add-on parts intended to increase shooting accuracy are to be called “assault weapons,” despite the fact the term has referred to fully automatic weapons used by the military for years. The latter are now referred to as “assault rifles,” and the two are often conflated. Adding even more to the confusion, the phrase “military style” is recommended to describe assault weapons.

Although AK-47s — which have been used in some fatal shootings — used to be fully automatic military weapons used by the Russians, that’s no longer the case — but the stylebook still instructs that they be labeled “AK-47 assault rifles.”

In her op-ed in The Hill, Rachel Alexander also points out that the AP Stylebook pushes the notion of climate change by requiring writers use language that would lead readers to believe climate change is true or the belief in man-made global warming is mainstream.

Alexander also points out the bias of so-called journalists when it comes to AP guidelines in relation to describing political leanings. Republicans are spoken of in a negative connotation against AP Stylebook standards whereas similar language is not used to describe Democrats.

And there’s one more problem. Journalists don’t always use the AP Stylebook when it would “water down” words that favor liberals. For example, the guide instructs journalists to “try to avoid describing political leanings.” However, journalists usually ignore the guide in referring to Republicans as “right wing.” At the same time, they almost never describe Democrats as “left-wing.”

And to think, some people still wonder why the mainstream media is increasingly not trusted by the public. These “universal guidelines” by the AP could be better described as “progressive propaganda” since that is what they are truly pushing.
