The Israel Police has notified the parents of Alroi Bergman, 18, that it intends to arrest Alroi soon, sources at the Homesh Yeshiva said Thursday.

Bergman was injured in a car ramming terror attack Monday against youths who study at the Homesh Yeshiva. The terrorists were driving a jeep with [PLO] plates when they identified a group of yeshiva boys and started driving toward them at high speed.

The youths got off the road and scattered but the jeep also veered off the road in order to run down at least one of them – and struck Bergman.

The Jews at Homesh quickly notified security and rescue forces, and Alroi was taken to Beilinson Hospital.

The jeep that struck the victim sped away from the scene immediately. Security forces erected checkpoints throughout the area in an attempt to locate the vehicle.

Bergman was struck near the ruins of Homesh, a Jewish town destroyed during the 2005 [Jewish expulsion] but which has seen repeated attempts to resettle it since. Just a few hours after the car ramming attack, police swooped down on Homesh and arrested five yeshiva boys, on suspicion that they had violated the “Disengagement Law”, which forbids entry of [Jews] into Homesh and other towns destroyed in 2005.

Alroi’s father, Rabbi Erez Bergman, told Arutz Sheva: “The Israel Police is behaving disgracefully. My son is the victim of a despicable terror attack by a terrorist, and instead of giving him a certificate of merit, the Israel Police wants to arrest him? Go catch the terrorists!”

Leading Samaria rabbis, headed by Rabbi Elyakim Levanon, held a meeting with the rabbis and students of Homesh Yeshiva this week, and were joined by Samaria Regional Council Head Yossi Dagan.

A press statement after the meeting said: “The Homesh Yeshiva operates with devotion and responsibility, and the Samaria leadership would like to express its appreciation and support for the yeshiva’s activity, and to impart strength to the students and rabbis of the yeshiva.”
