Muslim terrorist who murdered 8 in Manhattan car ramming attack pledged allegiance to Islamic State

More details are emerging about Sayfullo Saipov, the 29-year-old suspect in Tuesday’s ramming attack in Manhattan.

Saipov, who had been living in Tampa, Florida, is originally from Uzbekistan, having arrived in the U.S. in 2010.

According to The New York Times, investigators discovered handwritten notes in Arabic near the truck used by Saipov that indicated allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS) jihadist organization.

At the same time, the newspaper said, investigators had not uncovered evidence of any direct or enabling ties between Saipov and ISIS and were treating the episode as a case of an “inspired” attacker.

The Associated Press quoted a law enforcement official who said that Saipov rented the truck he used in the attack about an hour before the attack.

Although Saipov has a Florida license, he may have been staying in New Jersey, the official said.

After the ramming attack, Saipov smashed into a school bus, jumped out of his truck and ran up and down the highway waving a pellet gun and paintball gun and shouting “Allahu Akbar before he was shot in the abdomen by the officer.

Eight people were killed in the attack and 11 were injured, according to The New York Times.
